    Dorado.....Salminus Sp. I.D.????

so far so good. i think i am noticing more and more gold-ish coloring on his gill plates and stomach now that he has settled in. still not getting the dark black on the tail, and hasnt eaten yet. i guess he was eating massivore before - no interest yet. he had been messing with my Ocell, but...

    ammonia reading

i meant its all the same in the sense that you are still going to go through the same spikes (given, maybe not as harsh).....even if the time it takes is drastically shortened. probly still not a situation you necessarily want to risk with an aro. especially since he may not have even hit the...

    ammonia reading

and by "do nothing at all" i mean, they dont do what they advertise. making it possilble to add fish right away with no spikes of a normal cycle. it will still cycle the tank, but the tank would cycle all the same without it.

    ammonia reading

i wouldnt trust that stuff 100% of the time though. ive seen plenty of those products do nothing at all sometimes. he may be using it to try to cycle. but he didnt use it, with other fish, before the Arowana went in from what it sounds like.

    ammonia reading

its a new setup, so you're going through a break in cycle. any ammonia at all can be harmful - which i why, idealy, you probly shouldn't have started the tank right away with an arowana.

    Dorado.....Salminus Sp. I.D.????

"falring up and everything in the tank" - ignore that.......i have no idea where that came from or what it might have meant. haha

    Dorado.....Salminus Sp. I.D.????

thats kinda what im thinking. every once in a while you can catch a hint of gold on his belly. so far he is behaving ok, falring up and everything in the tank, but all the current seems to keep him swimming instead of getting bored and beating on everything.......for now

    Dorado.....Salminus Sp. I.D.????

to be honest.....im kinda lazy, so the whole taking pictures and putting them up is more than i feel like doing most of the time. haha. i think i put up pics of my african cichlid tank, and my big 18" Dat (in this tank) when i got him - thats been about it

    Dorado.....Salminus Sp. I.D.????

recently acquired, he is about 12". was just told "dorado" from the guy i got him from - not sure when the gold should start coming in, if it is indeed S. Brasiliensis. the only other one i thought was maybe S. Hilarii, but i doubt it????

Show Us The Different Species of African Rift Lake Cichlids..

    N. Polystigma looks more like a Linvingstoni than anything. just a bit different body shape and color variation. actually closer to a N. Linni than anything truthfully, but i dont ever see those available down here.

    Help with New Payara

probly wasn't the fish to buy without knowing anything about it. but good luck with it!!!!!! they are amazing fish. whenever i added new ones to my group i would put in a divider to keep them separated, so they can adjust and calm down on their own terms, and find food easier without having...

what do you guys think? starved cichla?

+1 hayward. the guy seems like he's more than willing to take in any suggestions. he says he's feeding his fish. if he's lying, that's his deal. but as far as we know, its being fed. so maybe some suggestions. im no Cichla expert, so i don't want to mislead the poor guy. ive seen fish fed...
