    Thoughts on extruded aluminium stands?

Haha that "tall" stand was a 400mm (maybe 450, can't remember) tall stand for a 2400x1200mm footprint tank! I wanted it couch-height and it worked out perfectly, would totally do that again if/when I build a big tank. Your set-up looks amazing, and that stand looks a whole lot sturdier than the...

    Thoughts on extruded aluminium stands?

    Examples; https://indmas.org/main/index.php?/forums/topic/19374-diy-extruded-aluminum-stand-150-tank-build/ https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/marketplace/pets-animals/fish/fish/marine-fish/listing/4498130644?tm=email&et=202&mt=36ACD3DE-501A-490E-94B6-DA5059ED31BB&bof=R7zxy9pK I mean they obviously...

Largest tank you've successfully run with a single FX5?

That's a fair bit of bioload alright, though I imagine the sponge filter would add a considerable amount of biological space of needed. I usually grow pothos in my tanks too, it certainly seems to help.

Largest tank you've successfully run with a single FX5?

Yep I guess ultimately it comes down to bioload. These days I prefer to run my tanks a bit more "natural" rather than cramming as many big fish into the tank as possible. It'll probably be a loosely South American community type tank, tetras, eartheaters, a few plecs etc. I'm not going to throw...

Largest tank you've successfully run with a single FX5?

As the title says, I know people here tend to go for the "more is better" kinda logic, but bwhat's the largest tank you've successfully run off a single FX5 I'm running one on my current 90g and thinking of upgrading to something around 180-220g. I know plenty about sumps and that's plan B, but...

    Metal monster 3k

For sure. I've gone from a 2000L tank in my basement to a 400L tank in my livingroom and I couldn't be happier. I actually get to see my fish on a regular basis now!

    Metal monster 3k

Woah, one of the few threads I've still got a subscription for. Shame the tank was never finished, it was shaping up to be pretty epic and I love the idea of a massive steel framed tank. But its understandable and its great you've found something you're passionate about to fill that space.

    Polypterus bichir "Lake Turkana"

Likewise. I don't check in here often, but its always nice to see some old names when I do. You've got a fantastic collection there, I still have a weak spot for lower jaw Polypterus, probably because I can't get them here!

    Baffle-less sump for freshwater

Have the intakes feeding into filter socks, ceramic noodles in laundry bags stacked up across the width of the tank so the water flows through them not around, heaters and return pump at the end. Job done.

What do you guys do for work?

Wow, even through the barrels the metal would have an affect on the flavour? That's really interesting, I guess if you taste/blend the stuff for a living your palate becomes very sensitive to any subtle influences and could detect things like that.

What do you guys do for work?

Holy **** that's cool! I'm more a scotch drinker, but that looks amazing. Is there a reason they're all timber construction? Seems like an expensive option, but perhaps not? Here's a pic from my office (taken while stationary, of course!).

    Here are my 3 clowns

How far away is the 75g? I'd say definitely add more clowns, but other similar shaped species could work too. Keep up the water changes and get the 75g running as soon as possible (but without rushing the cycling process, as someome else mentioned). One thing worth mentioning from your first...

6'x30"x18" botttom feeder tank stock idea

Agree about the Ornates, unless you're starting with larger Clowns you'll end up with a problematic size difference. As I also found out, many years ago, that size difference may not be an issue until the bichirs get really hungry. I had a mid-sized Ornate with about 8-10 clowns that had been in...

    Quarantine setup for Clown loaches

In the past I've quarantined new-from-the-LFS fish for 2-3 weeks before adding to the main tank with Clowns, just to be on the safe side with my main concern being white spot. How big is your existing tank? If you can get good healthy clowns from an LFS you trust then I'd be inclined to add them...

    Quarantine tank questions (cycling)

Five months is a long quarantine, but I guess that's a good option if you want to treat for worms, parasites etc. Touch wood everything seems to have worked out this time, and I guess treating for something like White Spot in the 800L tank wouldn't be half as bad (or expensive) as in the 2000L...

    Quarantine tank questions (cycling)

In the interests of keeping my Clown Loaches whitespot-free I always like to quarantine new fish. With the huge sump on my 2000L I used to keep a sponge filter running in there so I could kick-start the quarantine tank when needed and I never had any issues with cycling it. My 800L doesn't have...

Clown Loach breeding and export study

Its easy to be sceptical when you're interested enough to come here and make a post claiming you've bred them yourself, but not interested enough to provide any sort of evidence, even a basic photo of your set-up. I have no reason to doubt you, but I have no reason to believe you either. It's...
