What fish can I have in a .5 gallon tank?

Personally, I wouldn't recommend any fish. Even something like Dario dario that doesn't even reach 2 cm at full size needs more space than 0.5 gallons. You could do a nice little planted set up though with maybe an amano shrimp or something like that. Ultimately, I think you'll get more joy out...

    Fertile hybrids

From what I have read it depends a lot on the species that are hybridizing. A common example we learn when discussing speciation and how difficult it can be to determine the lines between species of fish and amphibians is a salamander in Cali where there are four species, I can't remember the...

    Albino senegal question

I target fed mine with a turkey baster for a while. If you always put it in the same place they'll learn to go there to wait for food.

Effects of Mouth Brooding on Juvenile Behavior

I don't know if anyone is interested but I have found some really cool stuff with this research so far. I'm really excited about it and needed to share it with more people, discussing it at institute pub nights just really hasn't been cutting it for me lately (I'm also avoiding doing my work and...

    Moving 4hrs away with fish/plants

I moved my fish a four hour drive a few times and it's really not that bad. If you think about it fish are shipped across the country with no air stones and are perfectly fine. So, here's what I did step by step. 1. After everything else was loaded into the truck I prepared the buckets for the...

I love the science aspect. There's always something new to learn and I can never read enough.

I've got some cleanup to do tomorrow... (graphic image warning)

Blech! When I worked at the pet store and had to feed the youngins that came in it happened often with pinkies. Especially if they were heated too long by some of my coworkers. We also had some king snakes bash the pinkies against the feeding cage and cause them to explode, those were some fun...

    nitrate-water change relationship.

    So I did some math and I came up with this. . . Week one: 0 +20 ppm - 50% water change = 10 ppm - 0.5 dilution = 5 ppm Weeek two: 5 + 20 ppm -50% water change = 12.5 ppm *0.5 dilution = 6.25 Week three: 6.25 + 20 ppm - 50% water change = 13.125 * 0.5 = 6.5625 ppm Week four: 6.5625 + 20 ppm -...

Minimum tank size for an Oscar

IMO minimum tank size threads are always going to get . . . angry? Insulting? Whatever you want to call it. The main thing to think about is that it's "minimum" requirement that was discussed. Ideally, in my mind, a 125 or 180 would be preferred, but a 75 is minimum. Having worked in a shop for...

Minimum tank size for an Oscar

When I said those measurements I meant minimum. I wasn't saying ideal. Ideally, we would all have huge tanks for our fish. But minimums are different.

Minimum tank size for an Oscar

I'm guessing they are either saying the 29 I have heard by those uneducated individuals that have tried to make me think they are experts, or the 125 of the overly cautious

Minimum tank size for an Oscar

Personally? The minimum size I would keep ONE oscar is a 75 gallon. If I wanted anything else, whether it be dither fish or not is a 90 gallon.

Justarn my math is alcohol fueled as well. . . so I'm not sure it was right either lol, but it made sense to me

    nitrate-water change relationship.

    Interesting, the way I have it is Week one: 20 ppm produced - 50% removed = 10 ppm * 0.5 dilution = 5 ppm Week two: 5 ppm + 20ppm produced = 25 ppm - 50% = 12.5 ppm * 0.5 dilution = 6.25 ppm Week three: 6.25 ppm + 20 ppm produced = 26.25 ppm - 50% = 13.125 ppm * 0.5 dilution = 6.56 ppm...

    nitrate-water change relationship.

I'm honestly curious as to how you manage 40 ppm out of tap in the UK. After my meeting today it looks like I'm staying to do a PhD and want to start a tank again (my first year here has been in halls). Also, I *think* cutting all the results in half should work. I don't have much experience...
