We have a saying at our house, to breed convicts just add water!! Terracotta pots broke in half make a great breeding area for them also.

It has worked for me in the past, as long as the Cons have somewhere to hide. Plus my Oscar prevented them from successfully breeding, which is a good thing.

Well he weighed 3.5 lbs and was around 15" long, possibly HITH but I am not sure. He was always healthy and hearty but I noticed pits on his head getting worse this year and he just stopped eating for the last week or so. We'll miss him.

My cat Loki loves messin with Oscar and company. He used to have a nasty habit of laying on top of the glass covers above this tank until one day he fell in and lucky for him my girlfriend was home and saved his dumb ass from drowning!!!:screwy:

I have fed some very small fry to African cichlids, a small red devil, but my Oscar won't eat them at any size.

My 14-15 inch Oscar that came with this tank when I purcharsed it. He was a little smaller when we got him with only a large common pleco for a partner, so my girlfriend wanted to get him a tank mate, a small young Oscar. When we got home we learned that Oscar here ate himself a $10...

I only use salt in my African Cichlid tank, and my fish thrive in that tank.

75 fish here. Convicts, Oscar, Flowerhorn, 2 Red Devils, 2 Jack Dempsey, various plecos, gentle tanks with Tetras, Red Swordtails, various cories, and various african cichlids.

230 gallons here, however I guarantee that figure will be larger by christmas, hoping to add 140 gallon or larger by then.

I agree also around 5-6", females especially seem to take forever before they are receptive to the aggressive male.
