The life span of a tank

I had a tank up til about two years ago that was 25 years old and never leaked. I was in the garage reaching over it to get something from the shelf and my belt buckle chipped the corner......next day I bought a shop vac.

    WTB Mag 9.5 Pump

Dude, I am more of a boy-short and halter top guy.... Mag pumps can be a little loud but they have a good track record. I like external pumps myself but have used many submersible pumps and I like Lifegard QuietOne series and Eheim. If I had the choice to start a system from the beginning with...

    tea time in the aquarium

Before anyone says anything about keeping Koi in ponds....I know. But holey gut busting Batman! THAT FISH EAT!!!! And not just algae waffers and large amounts of fresh peas.... that fish eat everything that drops int he tank....including other fish small enough to fit in its gullet!!

120 Gallon with Chipped Bottom Glass - Should I Be Worried?

Just a suggestion. Trim just protects against chipping... I would, however, protect the bottom glass with something though.

120 Gallon with Chipped Bottom Glass - Should I Be Worried?

I've seen worse. Silicone the hell out of it and get some lexan corner protector from HomeD.

    Dechlorinator overdose

Melafix is such a small solution, you could dump the whole bottle in and not hurt any fish.....trust me....been there.. BTW....speaking of Melafix, I buy the pond Melafix....same price but like triple the concentration. ...

I've Never Used Water Conditioners...Anyone Else?

I buy 500-1000 grams of sodium thiosulfate and mix my own. 500 grams is like $10...500 grams in a gallon of distilled water makes enough to treat approx. 38,000 gallons of water. 38,000 gallons divided by 150 gallons per water change is like 253 water changes per gallon of solution. That $10 is...

    Dechlorinator overdose

Sorry about your pleco. I would do a smallish water change and just add water...no conditioner....maybe put a powerhead aimed up towards the surface? I make my own water dechlorinator and am pretty sure you would have to use and entire container of crystals to do harm...then again, better safe...

    Acrylic or glass pieces

You could build an in sump stand from pvc pipe as well. Ziptie the egg crate to the frame/stand and set it in the bottom of the the sump.

    12'x3'x3' Tank planning

Obviously the larger glass would offer better viewing but you can't argue the safety factor difference. 3/4" is plenty thick for that size tank especially with a 2" border....and vertical bracing won't be difficult but the real fly in the ointment is horizontal bracing. Horizontal bracing is by...

    DIY Vacuum?

http://m.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=24111 @ ukgoffer Check it out...I have used this and it works well....but I would fill the catch bag with filter floss.

    Aquarium Canopy Lid Support

Getting the struts right may be tricky....they are rated for different weights and travel. @DN328 has a good suggestion and that is the way I would go as well. Maybe some rubber or felt bump stops would cushion a dropped lid.

Give me the low down! DIY masters chime in!!

I don't think I understand the corners.....are they overflows? Why open at the bottom? It looks clean. Is the whole tank a complete ground up build? Very nice.

Give me the low down! DIY masters chime in!!

Pretty is in the eye of the beholder. I like. ....that Hayward is impressive and I really like the filters for the drip. How long do youget between filter change outs? I really am gravitating towards a drip...

    can this workout?

The tank is too small right out of the gate for two tinfoil barbs that can and may get 15" each. But more importantly, filtration on such a setup should be the focus as, and it is just my opinion, you have quit a full tank as far as fish go now. Don't be surprised as these fish reach maturity...

Can I get an opinion on my seams plz?

It seams to me.....see what I did there?... okay okay okay.....serious... It looks pretty good. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but then, it isn't in my space. I would address the crack on the top...did you create the relief hole? That crack is makingthe top bracing useless....maybe a fill and...

    Fish knocked out

It may be wise, if possible, to set up a hospital tank just to keep tabs his condition. Maybe saturate the tank with air and easy om the circulation.

    Fish knocked out

Four days is long enough to recover from a simple knock....the fish may have permanently injured itself unfortunately. I would just continue to care for it as usual and hope for the best. If it had been a spinal injury (and it still may be) same thing. If there is improvement from original...
