    Some ( GOLD Nuggets,assoc. species ) come from shallower,faster moving streams that don't have as much woody material and subsist on algae,plant material and aufwuchs (possible spelling) that they scrape off the rocks on the stream bed. These can stand more current and oxygenation.

    I have used similiar wood before with no ill effects. I would say clean it good and go with it as long as the water it came from was in good shape.
