I'm purchasing a tank tomorrow that will have live rock / sand & some snails & crabs. They'll be transported in minimal water, then I"ll quickly set it up and start adding my mixed water to it. Any other suggestions for making sure I keep the crabs & snails alive? They aren't my top...

As I start my new tank, I need to know how to do the water changes. My FW tanks, I always raked the gravel with the hose and took out a lot of debris. Should I do this when I do water changes in my new SW tank? I'm assuming not, but want to make sure.

I"m not starting with a Protein Skimmer but will get one before my tank has too many fish in it..... should be a good Christmas present to ask for.

thanks for the replies, have been helpful. What about water changes? I've seen the rule of thumb 25% every week. My local fish shop told me 25% every months should be good enough. opinions on that?

So how will I know the water has cycled enough to start adding fish?
