    Algae on rocks, need advice

Hi Stingray, Algae is the most natural form of food for most fish, and especially the Lake Malawi cichlids. I have taken some of my F1 Labetropheus fuelleborni Katale to my Pet Shop and put a male and 2 females into my 1000l display tank. The rocks are green with algae. These three have grown to...

    OZONE AS WATER TREATMENT

Chompers, Thanks for the reply. Yes, it seems as though those who build and supply these generators cannot give you information relvant to your requirements. I am looking for the type of info that tells me how much in need, how long I need to run the unit for the various volumes of water I...

Hap. Ruby Greens have malawi bloat

The quickest remedy would be to get antibiotiks as they will work a lot quicker. Not sure as to what it is you will need. I hope you are able to save your fish. Remember too feed with food that has a protein level of less than 35% to be on the safe side. Feed only 1x per day or better still...

    mbuna tank red-done

You did the right thing by making the change. Bricks looked like a wall to me. What is the size of the tank? What do you have in mind to put into the tank? :naughty::screwy::ROFL::headbang2:nilly::)

    Africans Dumped on Me!!!!

:)Wimmels was reg met sy antwoord. These fish are more than likely the most aggressive of the Melanochromis species. I would suggest you use Bicarbonate of soda to raise the PH and KH of your water. That is all you need to add. In the 3ft I would look at adding about a 1/4 packet, thats if it...

    OZONE AS WATER TREATMENT

I am looking for more information on this topic. Here in South Africa we can get Ozone generators but there is very little, or none, information regarding how much, for how long or whatever other question you might have on the topic. I have 12000l of water in my Pet Shop and want to treat it...

    Sick-lids

20 fish of the size you describe is not overstocking your tank. Your symptoms sound very similar to an experience I have had occur the past week or two and what I had occur about a year ago. What was your NITRATE reading? Do you find your fish are also clamping their fins and tending to swim...

    Algae...

Algae is the nearest thing to their natural food you can give an mbuna. I never clean my rocks. Will look at cleaning the glass, all round, from time to time. I have found that a blue marine tube helps to promote the growth, especially when left on 24hrs a day.

    Pics

Looks good. I did my very first Malawi tank with the rocks running the entire length of the tank and discovered my greshakei male spent his time trying to control it all. Then saw a tank where there was a pile at either end and once I had changed my tank his aggression subsided dramatically as...

    NEW ARRIVALS; Wild caught Livingstoni

I have spent some time, these past couple of days, just watching these new fish. Unlike the ones bred in captivity they are truly wild. The bigger one swims around looking for ambush spots. Has one spot where it literally lies on its side waiting for some of the fry/smaller fish to swim by. The...

    Advice please

:)Nothing wrong with Melanochromis auratus. Take 1 male and give him 3-4 females. These fish are no more aggro than most of the other Malawi's. Most of them don't like another male being too close to them. The best is to try and buy them as small as possible so they can grow together. Give them...

    NEW ARRIVALS; Wild caught Livingstoni

A good try there MUSKE. First part is correct but not a fenestratus. Dit sal lekker wees om te kan skinner sonder dat die Amerikaners vir ons kan verstaan. I buy my Malawi's, all Wild caughts, from a contact in Cape Town. He has a conact at the Lake so it is lekker. What a great descriptive...

    NEW ARRIVALS; Wild caught Livingstoni

Here is a shot, after much difficulty in not having other fish in the shot, of newly acquired Nimbochromis livingstoni. A couple of other pics of fish in my 800l tank that is at my home. Some pics of some newly acquired Placidochromis milomo. What stunning fish the wild caughts are. Females...

    4 dead

I had a similar experience some time ago. Have about 50 tanks and had problems in about half of the free standing tanks. After reading thrpough all that has been written I feel there might have been a bacteria infestation. The question that needs asking is "Where did it come from?" What did you...

    Hap. Ahli ????????

The females can hold for up to 4weeks. The longer they stay in the mothers mouth the better as they are taking in the necessary bacteria. Drop some food in to try and entice her to spit. I think we get impatient and want the fry out so we can see them. Leave it up to nature...

    75 Gallon Mbuna Tank - Assistance Needed, Nuth's Mbuna-Land

Over crowding is not the problem. As long as there is really good filtration and regular 20% water changes the number of fish is not too many for the tank size. Loads of rocks and I would add in another 10-15 fish. Over crowding tends to greatly reduce any aggression by the males. I would leave...

Mbuna and OB ready to spit but haven't?!?

Females can hold up to 28 days. I entice them to spit by dropping in some food. If they are ready they will spit and eat. Have had some females that kept on taking in their fry at night. This was for about 4-5 days before they finally left them to swim freely. The longer they are left in the...
