Tired of filling RO jugs & considering tap water. Prime? Carbon Block? Let sit?

Prime is what I want/need if I go this route. When the weather permits, just run the vac out and avaiable door/window. When cold, run it to the nearest sink/toilet/bathtub/whatever. Find a way to hook a hose to your nearest faucet for filling. Add the Prime while filling the tank. Do it once...

Having a problem priming DIY PVC overflow

decided on a CPR overflow box. I would do a bit more research on overflows. The CPR style needs an Aqualifter to keep it working. Good luck. BTW..plenty of PVC "pretzel" overflows in use. You just did someting wrong with yours.

Built it just like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DFk4...eature=related If you did as you say, it should work. Review your construction.

    HELP Please! 75 gal filtration..

Simple answer is yes. Actually, you could have got by with just one, but having 2 filters is almost always a good idea.

Help me desing a supper nitrate eliminating sump..

Until post #6, I didn`t see anything about your question, how to reduce nitrates. All the filter socks, bio balls, ceramic rings, sponges, baffles, etc. will have no effect on nitrates. If doable, as to where your tank is in relation to a water source/drain, a constant loss-drip system would...

    filter upgrade?..

The majority of your beneficial bacteria resides in filter media. Just because this is repeated, often does not make it so. No way can a statement like that be backed up by anything. Most would be surprised at the amount of bacteria that is not in any filter media. If you said, in my...

    substrate

You are right to be getting rid of what you have. I would suggest you give a bit more thought to the replacement, gravel is what you were thinking of. Sand is really a much better choice. Gravel has a bad track record, as it traps all manner of gunk and needs good cleaning, often done. You...

Help me achieve crystal clear water!

You can`t remove tiny particles unless your filter material has fine enough pores to catch it, period. Lighting plays a major role in algae, both brown and green. Bulbs used and amounts of time they are on. If your water is clear after a WC and slowly reverts to less than clear, do more WC...

    Coil denitrator result

Wouldn't you want to increase the flow rate through the denitrator Not sure you could do that. The greater the flow, would guess, the greater the chance of oxygen getting into the system. I think we can agree, oxygen is a death sentence for anerobic bacteria. OP, what`s up with your trace...

    Cloudy and constant Ammonia spikes

How long has the tank been running with fish? Eco Stone???? When did that go in? Did you remove anything to put the stone in? WC and Prime would be my action untill things settle down.

10 Gallon cycling but not there what to do

should I continue to do daily 10 - 15 % water changes I would. Such a small amount of water and time, why not. It won`t have any effect on your cycle time.

Idea for preventing tank overflows with loss of siphon.

Here is my “take” on this. Most all the postings related to sumps are from people just like you, in the planning stage. Quite a few never step on to building the thing. Planning and research are needed even for a store bought system, but a guy can worry this decision to death. If...

    Wet/Dry VS. Canister

Big surprise… Your LFS is trying to make a boat payment off of you. Aqua lifter pumps shouldn`t set you back more than $25, tops. Check some online vendors and you can see what I mean. A LFS should make a profit,, but keep it reasonable.

    Wet/Dry VS. Canister

I`d keep the wet dry. You already have it, why not use it. Did it ever fail on you? Specific gravity aside, why would it not work with fresh water? I have seen some “worry warts” who added an aqua lifter to their U tubes.

    Surface Agitation / Oxygenation question

That`s a new one, too much shimmer. I would try adjusting your return to a shimmer level you can live with and watch my fish. If none are at the surface, gasping I would call that success and relax. If the fish start showing signs of stress, well, back to headscratching. So,I guess your...

    Unique Magnum 350 problem...

Just a thought. Have you tried to run it with the media cage only, no media in it? Guess you have checked your hose set ups and found no obstructions. Don`t think your motor is bad. They either work right or not at all. I would try setting up in the garage with a bucket of water. Put the...
