will do this. not just water, electricity also. tank temp drops 4 degrees after waterchange during the cold days of winter. stressful on the fish. btw, I augment my filtration with this product

thanks... would love to reduce my water change to 30 days also. I think my filters (2) are very efficient in collecting the debris, because they can get dirty. 20 ppm seems to be a reasonable target

I do, I have a 1.5" diameter hose that siphons the water into my backyard in the summer. but I still hate throwing away approx. 400 gals of water a month during the winter month.

this basically answered my question. so, there are people doing waterchange based on parameters, not just on the routine. Maybe 40 ppm is pushing it.

my tank is not planted, I vaccum the bottom of the tank during water change. I also clean my filter box and media when necessary.

thanks, and yes - the tank is still running. picture taken about a month ago, arowanas have reached mature size now, and the tank seems smaller :D

the two acrylic panels were siliconed to stainless steel frame. no acrylic to acrylic joints here as there are only two acrylic panels - the front and the back. Dow 832 is a multi-material silicone. thanks for the additional comments.
