    Need some expert aulonocara advice!

Hoping someone can help. Getting frustrated! I have a fairly new aulonocara set up. It is a 200L tank and my intention was to have an all male tank. I have a nicely coloured 4" Mandarin, a nicely coloured 3" Maulana, a 2.5" colouring up fire fish, what I think is an orange Baenschi (3")...

    Update on my EBJD

Thank you guys. I am so proud of him (I assume he!?) and will certainly keep you posted. He has pretty much wiped out all the "myths" about EBJDs, or maybe I just got a strong one. I reckon this one will be a 9 incher!

    Update on my EBJD

Well, nowadays he is having a go at everyone! (Typical JD) The geos are wimps and get picked on by pretty much all tank mates! But, there haven't been any injuries yet so fingers crossed its nothing serious!

April Tank of the Month Contest -VOTING CLOSED-

No UV steriliser. All I did was add ESHA Hexamita cause he had white poo when I got him, kept the water really clean with weekly water changes and fed him a varied diet. This fish has been brilliant from the start. I will add some new pics today on the thread in the media section that's...

HELP! My krib babies have gone really skittish!

Ok, have just tested the nitrates and ammonia. Amm - 0 but nitrates are very high at around 100ppm!! (bright red test result) so this could very well be a clear indication as to why they were being erratic and skittish. Have done a 70% water change and hoping it will help.

April Tank of the Month Contest -VOTING CLOSED-

Thanks and he looks even better now! Gone from 1.5" to 6" in 5 months! Thanks for your votes everyone but I actually regret using that pic because it was a bad angle and wish I had sent in a better quality one as this pic does not do the tank justice! Will have to try again in 3 months...

HELP! My krib babies have gone really skittish!

Got about 30 krib fry in a 125L tank of varying sizes, with mum only (Dad died 6 weeks ago). They are about 3 months old now. All has been really well until last 2 days when they have gone really skittish, freaking out every time I go near the tank. They also seem pale, sitting on the bottom...

A quick Q about cycling and nitrate

I agree that putting fish into an "uncycled" tank is cruel but my filter will already have enough bacteria to support these 2 tiny platies.

A quick Q about cycling and nitrate

Ah, but I do not intend to add a full stock of cichlids straight away, I am happy to add 1 or 2 small ones every 2 weeks or so. I cycled my 92G using the method I used on this tank but instead I immediately added 3 female Congo Tetras, followed by 3 more males a week later. I have had no...

A quick Q about cycling and nitrate

Thanks for your replies. No I am not confusing nitrates with nitrites, it is just my other tank has less than 5ppm all the time (maybe I am doing a good job!). I dont actually have a test kit for nitrites - i think I should get one just to be sure. I was thinking along the lines that if I can...

A quick Q about cycling and nitrate

I wonder if anyone can help. I have done this before but just wanted to hear from someone who has done this a few times before! I set up my brand new 55G Malawi tank on Saturday. I added a sponge from the old filter (which has bene running for years in a 125L tank) to the new filter, used...

    Peacocks and Kribensis

I am new to Africans and about to set up a brand new 55G male peacock tank, however i have a pair of kribensis whic I dont really want to part with. Can I keep a pair of breeding adult kribensis in a tank of male juvi peacocks? Will there be fighting leading to death? Thanks.

tank mates for geophagus red head

My EBJD flirts with my female G. redhead Tapajos when the other female is tied up with the male. Its really funny! They get on pretty well and all the fish in the tank know not to mess with the EBJD including the severums who are top dog. But because of this, there is hardly any fighting.

New to Mbuna, need help and advice!

Thanks for all your help and advice guys. I am now going to throw a spanner in the works and say that after further research I really like the idea of a peacock tank. Are there any mbuna that can live harmoniously with these; from what I have read I might get away with labs? Would stocking...

New to Mbuna, need help and advice!

Hi there, I have purchased a 55G long tank to house Malawi Mbuna. I know a fair bit about SA/CA cichlids but have no experience about the compatibility of Africans; this will be my first ever attempt! So, after a bit of research I was thinking about a combination of these species: Cynotilapia...

    Kribensis mouth stuck open

Its OK, dont worry about being sensitive with me. Over the years I have got used to the sad fact that fish die more frequently than I like to remember! I did want to autopsy him but I couldnt bring myself to do it and asked my BF who also appeared sqeamish and didnt want to either! He has...

    Kribensis mouth stuck open

Unfortunately, I came home today and Mr Krib was dead. :( There appeared to be swelling and bruising and a red ulcer on the underside of his neck up to his belly. it looks like he may have got something stuck in this area - a place I wouldn't have been able to get to without cutting him...

    Kribensis mouth stuck open

How can I describe it....... Its like from his gills to the end of his mouth have been stretched/pulled forward although his gills are flush to the body and look normal. His mouth does not close fully but he still does the open closing mouth motion. When I took him out of the water to have a...
