Using a 210gal aquarium as a donor for a long plywood tank. Questions...

Definitely doable, used a 55G to make a 180G back when I was a youngster. Was easier for me considering I could use one solid panel for front while you will have to piece yours together. Good Luck.

New DIY Aquarium - Glass/Metal Hybrid

A bit? Jeez man, you're being overly generous on that one. Haven't done this in ~a decade. They're sloppy for sure. Gave it a few extra days to cure just for good measure. That being said, I wasn't entirely sure the glass -metal seam would hold. Failed to properly persuade the fillet seam into...

New DIY Aquarium - Glass/Metal Hybrid

Built the stand today when I got off of work. May still add a few supports, but it was mostly left over material. Top of the stand is 3/4" plywood, very flat, no noticeable deflection. Christmas gift from work was a notification that I was getting the boot. Today was actually my last day...

New DIY Aquarium - Glass/Metal Hybrid

I've seen pieces of granite on Craigslist, but they're mostly cost prohibitive. I'm certain I have some max acr floating around somewhere, bit I haven't looked into how it adheres to aluminum. I'll probably wait another 24hrs before test filling. I'll post results after. Thanks again for input.

New DIY Aquarium - Glass/Metal Hybrid

Thanks Zoea, Both were interesting reads. In all honesty I didn't have a specific intent to use aluminum, but I was at home depot last night 10 min before closing and it was the perfect size I needed. In the past I've had success patching tanks w 3,4" plywood coated in drylock. Even built an...

New DIY Aquarium - Glass/Metal Hybrid

GE silicone 1 for the glass-glass connection, DAP 3.0 for glass-aluminum. I've built all glass tanks w/ ge 1 so I'm not worried about that. Never used aluminum or DAP 3.0 before. Would've done more research in my younger days, but as I said, just decided to go for it. If it fails I can add a...

    300G Rubbermaid Outdoors, Cover = O2 Depletion?

I've been itching to setup my 300G Rubbermaid pond outside for the last few months, but I have a quick question. Below I have a table which shows the average temps in my area w/this month being the coldest of the year. I would need to maintain a temp at least 30 degrees over the coldest average...

    Female JD and male salvini?

Have never heard of that particular pairing but i'd personally be scared of a male sal putting a beatdown on female jack, depending on sizes and individual temperments of course. Anyway best of luck in trying

    drilling 3/4" glass...

Also as the glass shop mentioned it prob would be best to do halfway through one side, then go from the other since it is so thick

    drilling 3/4" glass...

The thickest i've done is 3/8. I really wouldn't try it vertical though as you need the water to cool it. But yes I have used a hand drill to do mine. One thing to consider is getting a block of wood using a regular hole saw on it. Basically clamp the wooden block to the tank and use it as a...

Could I repair bottom pane of 20g with plywood?

I haven't tried it w the method you're describing but I have used a piece of water proof plywood on the inside of a 75g. in your case plywood + epoxy is prob more expensive than a replacement piece of glass, unless you already happen to have the materials on hand
