    Plywood tank advice

Ran a Liquid Rubber tank for almost 8 years, never put sand or gravel in it, but suspect that it some of it would imbed itself in the liquid rubber to one degree or another. Liquid Rubber stayed pliable and slightly sticky even after 8 years underwater. Dropped various things in tank over the...

    3yrs and finally 300G full

Recently shut down my Aquarium as had to move it out of my Garage to make room for other changes. So thought would post some video I came across while cleaning things up. Changed some things as time went on, such as from internal pump to external which worked much better and easier to manage...

HDPE Panel/Liquid Rubber/Plywood 240 Gallon DIY Aquarium Build

If still looking for idea's to strengthen support for corners and bottom edges, check about half way done this link for my build. I took steel cladding that goes around the wood framing of a garage door, had to cut one side off it to get the 90% pieces and then liquid rubber them bottom of...

Ultima II 1000 or 2000 for my 1000 Gallon Setup

After running a 4000 Ultima on a 300+ Tank for a year I would concur with much of the above -Run More than one Ulitima ( when you backwash it takes some time to rebuild filter bed) so using two and alternating cleaning would be better, I always get ammonia spike on backwash plus the...

    Bead Filters and Pump Sizing

With my Ultima setup initially ran internal pump 4300gph on 4000 Ultima, PondMaster Pro 4300 it did work but think it gave it a work out. Briefly ran same pump but 6000gph version which worked well but was too much turnover for my 300+ tank. So switched to external Sequence pump 4300gph which...

Wood/deck screws VS bolts VS lag bolts strongest ?

On my build I used the same Liquid Rubber (Zavlar) that I was using as tank sealant, saw no reason to use something different. The LR is a very strong Glue. Used Std off shelf #10x2inch wood screws, on glued edges, and then on exterior corners and bottom edges [ fastened again with the LR...

    Finally - Ultima 10,000 Setup

Without turning pump on, turn valve to Rinse or Backwash. On my unit it doesn't matter if pump is running or not, water moves from tank out waste line, when its on these two settings So I assume water in tank would push any air out of system on its own accord.

    Finally - Ultima 10,000 Setup

Been running Ultima4000 on a 325Gallon tank for 6 months, works well. http://sdrv.ms/OE2E8D Clean water and tank (small ammonia spike on some backwash's but back to normal zero in 1hr or so) Been backflushing/rinsing weekly, but believe that maybe to often so bumping that up a week at a...

I would just like to say.. i hate cutting acrylic!

I've always sprayed a little water (note "little") from a spray bottle on line and cut it with jig saw with a normal blade for wood like plywood and it cut pretty easy but if you go to fast it will shatter and to slow it melts, and the thinner it is the harder to find the cutting speed. The...

    ATTN Zavlar/Permadri users

I used Eternabond tape on inside corners of tank, its sticky on one side and cloth on other, then painted over with LR, easy to install and the LR soaked into and worked well on the cloth surface. It also gives a reference point for getting a thickness of LR on tank surface, just kept painting...

    3yrs and finally 300G full

Ones I have were made by these folks http://www.winnipegplastics.com/bulkhead-fittings used 1 1/2 size which only allows half threads to be inside nut. But you only tighten it down 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Which for me was 1/4 by hand and another 1/4 with wrench which made it very tight. Each Thread...

    3yrs and finally 300G full

This was a winter project over last three years to see, an learn about building and running such a large tank setup. It is nice to get water in it and see it all flow in and out, pump and filter seem to be working 100 % and really impressed with that big surface skimmer its working very well.

    keeping pondcoat/zavlar black

I have not confirmed this with a full tank of water but for what its worth. I've noted having painted LR on to a piece of acrylic, drying it in the SUN between coats for a few hours. Then dropped it in a bucket of water, after 3 months the LR on this piece is still as black as the day I dropped...

SAFE BUTYL CAULK FOR ZALVAR LIQUID RUBBER

I also looked at the Butyl could only find one version at local Co-op hardware it was for gutters and was pretty stringy stuff. If you want to go into uncharted territory, with a product no one appears to have used before on these builds, I used Eternabond Double Stick gasket/tape to attach...

    Liquid Rubber vs West Systems

Put it in the " SUN " Roll it to a window or sit in door of garage Stand tank on its end so it sticks up 8 ft or whatever in the air, with some dolly wheels under it so its easier to move around. The LR will heat right up, you will smell it, when you take it out of the sun and cool down it...

    Liquid Rubber vs West Systems

Is there a which particular brand/type paint that best to use with LR Also I would recommend getting the sun shining on a LR coated tank as it drys completely differently with you get the sun shining on it, hard coating, no tackiness. I tipped mine up on end on top of dolly wheels made to move...

    ETERNABOND

Thanks for the additional info. I did email Eternabond, they replied that their product would be a good sealant in corners, and for window to plywood bond and seal. They say it will never go hard and remains flexible, & bonds basically to anything but silicone So should bond the Liquid...
