yeah my LFS rarley buys large oscars and when they do get one they usually dont pay anything for them, plus they dont keep the small ones in stock because they will just end up geting them back when they out grow the owners tank anyway.

You need a good lid for the top of the tank. I have glass tops on mine as do alot of other people, some also have canopies that go over the tops of their tanks to hide lights and such, it just depends on your vision as of what looks good. sorry for the hijack lets get back to the thread

I put mine on a timer to come on when the lights go on and go off when they go off. The life of a bulb (for a turbo twist) is approx 10k hours according to the manufacturer. I broke one when I moved and it was alittle pricy at 40 dollars but at the same time it will last quite a while.
