Rays on a budget- My (somewhat long) story w/pics

Haven't posted much, but my brain has been going crazy. To be simple- I think I can do Aquaponics the opposite of what it's ever been done. It's always done as a ratio that the plants can utilize the nutrients.... But I think I can go crazy with the fish and use the poop to generate heat and...

Rays on a budget- My (somewhat long) story w/pics

I like brainstorming sessions. You bring some good ideas. The fish food idea is one I had considered before, but not quite in that way. I had just started breeding the Tilapia for a plan this fall, until $2200 worth of stuff went wrong, starting with an out of pocket ER visit in Costa Rica...

Hey Andy! Unfortunately, the last of the rays were lost in an extended power outtage here. All I have now is Tilapia and ideas.

Ok, so for starts- mom got cancer I was having some issues already and got more depressed and everything fell apart. Mom died, Eventually I took a good job that worked out well until I got stuck on perpetual forever night shift and it messed me up. Now all this time later, I'm treated for RA...

Rays on a budget- My (somewhat long) story w/pics

I had intended to give more information by now. I'll bring everyone up to speed on what's been happening soon. Then I can work out some ideas to move things forward. Hopefully there's enough people left here to provide input. Stay tuned...

FOOD! I started these seeds and built this system only 3 weeks ago. Maintenance is no different than if I was just feeding fish. Those Tomato plants are 14" tall...they took 10 days to Germinate, so they grew 14" in 12 days.

Yes I'm still working with the Tilapia although I havn't been working real hard to keep them breeding as I have no outlet for them at this time and not enough room to grow them out. Working on a lot of things though, actually. I need to get some pictures up, but our wide angle lens got...

Rays on a budget- My (somewhat long) story w/pics

Getting motivated now that I'm way behind on things. Right now I'm installing tile floor in the living room and my body is totally rejecting the work. It's been a week-long project, but it needed to be done. The rest of the house is a mess though...concrete dust everywhere in the kitchen and the...

Rays on a budget- My (somewhat long) story w/pics

thanks for the encouragement. Just a quick update- I think I am finished with looking for a "job". I might still come across something part time...but the whole thing just became too depressing and I finally realized that the time I spent worrying and searching for work could be better spent...

Intruder alert!!! What's the weirdest thing you never put in your tank or pond?

Last summer, this dude just kind-of moved in. We have a Koi pond off our back deck, and there's a couple little spots where he could have squeezed it...but what was he looking for? We never interfered, or moved him. I suspect he eventually became a meal.

Just came across a couple of cool pics from a few months ago. This dude somehow slipped into the basement from the Koi pond that is by our deck. We didn't put him here, nor did we remove him. I suspect he became a meal for someone. Nature is pretty neat.

Rays on a budget- My (somewhat long) story w/pics

I have been working on a plan of action and have resorted to the admission that I need to seek outside employment for several reasons. I believe that I have a job offer coming in the next day or so and it is giving me a lot of mixed emotions. I began looking for part-time, or temporary work, to...

Thanks for all the inspiration everyone. Things are status-quo right now I suppose, and I'm plugging along. Made another batch of food, got everything around here staying healthy, but at the same time, I am looking for some other source of income while I work through some of these issues. I just...

Been continuing to get things back in shape and doing well here. Caught up on nutrition, water changes and stuff that get neglected when situations are less than ideal, and It's niice to see the rays swimming off the bottom and being happy again. It's sad to say that I'm down to just 3 now...
