    Insufficient Filtration

There is clearly atleast 12"x12" of bio balls in his sump. More than enough for double his stock.

    Insufficient Filtration

Sorry even if filters removing ammonia is "common knowledge" I strongly disagree. Out of the 50 plus tanks my father n I have running if we did not do water changes regularly the ammonia would spike sky high reguardless of how much bio media the sumps have.

    Live food?! Too Much?

Red wigglers r a fine fish food. The discus my father used to breed on a mass scale only got wigglers and home made high protein fishnfood.

    epoxy coatings??

I have been looking for a cheaper alternative to building tanks with pond armor and in my research have found DEVOE. they make a product call bar rust and it is used for potable water tanks. my question is if its safe for potable water is it also fish safe?

    New fish !

Nice flowerhorn. With proper care he should brighten up nicely. I can only speak from experience with the 2 flowerhorns I had in the past and they did not go with any fish not even themselves. They had to be kept in their tank with a divider seperating them the tank was also a 125. I don't know...

Sponge filters are relitively amazing for what they r and their general size. Have you considered getting rid of all the hang ons and putting an overflow box and sump?

    How many pbass?

180 is the smallest tank i personally know of that successfully bred cichla. a 125 is like a prison cell if you plan to house 6 cichla for life, not too sure on how big they grow to a maximum in captivity but you have to realize that you are housing a fish that gets up to 30 lbs. in the wild...

    local pbass

Funny how it turns out. I posted on a thread the other day which was about cichla being sold at somebodies local petco. I commented and said something along the lines of " I wish my petco sold cichla". Today I took my daughter to look at ball pythons because she has been begging me for one and...

cichla mono and other common types

Actually there is a permit readily available for purchase which allows you to obtain and transport a specific number of cichla per week. Purchased it last year and renewed this year already. I am legally ready to catch and transport pbass. Thanks for the input though. What locations do u...

    300g stand

stand looks great structurally .... no worries on strength for sure even without the bracing.

    80G stand, square base tank

the stand is only for an 80 gallon tank. most production stands are built of thinner plywood and with no bracing. you have to realize the vertical strength of wood.

freshwater clams in filter sock/sump prefilter

1 or 2 will have no affect on your water quality, you may as well not put them in the sump at all. i had almost 40 .5 -3/4" fw clams in my sump before i saw a difference. but again, experimenting is the main interest, no???

freshwater clams in filter sock/sump prefilter

i housed freshwater clams in a 55 gallon sump that i built for one of my 125 gallon tanks. they are definately beneficial to the system unless of course they die, which is quite easy to do. just like a snail your water has to be pristine to ensure they dont die. i obtained my clams from a local...

    Filter media??

with a miter saw... through all of my carpentry jobs and personal projects i find that there is an awful lot of scrap material left behind after about a month or so.... anything that does not leech harmful chemicals into water can be used as media.. and its a given that the more surface area...
