I own two xP1's, one xP2, two xP3's, and am about to buy an xP4. Then only time I have had a priming problem is when I cut the hoses too long. Once I shortened them, it started up first time, every time.

Planted tanks require a balance of light, nutrients and co2. If you don't want to set up pressurized co2, Excel is a good option. You need to investigate dosing regimes, google EI and PPS, tho there are many dosing regimes out there. Dose both macros and Excel daily.

Do you have nerites in the tank?

I found this thread several weeks ago. I have started using Stability on my newly set up 125g with trickle filter. I added fish (dithers from other tanks), and a fair amount of plants. I shake the %^&* out of the bottle before measuring milky white capfuls into my sump. Today was day three...

My 120g has a sump and pressurized co2. No problem getting the drop checker lime green. It can be done...most people who say no sump have never had one.
