    Fire Eels

My fire eel is 32 inches and has put on over 6 of that in a matter of months, I do not think it will slow down growing for some time yet

    I just can't beleive this

I would not buy on eBay or postal fish. Get from a decent fish shop, they may be a bit more expensive but they carry the losses and sort out the fish for sale. My LFS often have fish for 4 weeks before offering for sale.

    macrognathus aral v macrognathus siamensus

I think the importer / supplier lists are to blame, you order a box of x and get y. The re-seller can be informed of the wrong fish and doesn't have the experience to tell the difference. Fish losses through poor transit is shocking, it is similar in the reptile market.

Tire Track Eel true minimum tank size?

With fish (and many other animals etc..) you can lessen aggression by packing them in, it is less likely that one fish gets picked on unless sick. So, you may find that 2 Eels fights but 10 would not or you would not notice. The only thing we need to worry about is if this causes stress as the...

    Tigrinus issue

Funnily enough my LFS had two tigs in the same tank and now you mention it I remember they were always at opposite ends of the tank.

False piraiba, Brachyplatystoma capapretum, ~10", in 4500 gal

I totally agree that the time to convert ammonia and nitrite is an issue especially in low volume to fish ratio or ammonia spike level, we could have filters bigger than our tanks but even then the bioload would not prepare it for a sudden spike. Volume will always win I guess with high enough...

    Tigrinus issue

When my Tig first went in my tank the Ray gave him a bit of a hard time and he lost his streamers on his tail, made an area in the tank of egg crate where the Tig could come and go without the Ray and it soon healed up, once the tig was feeding well he now holds his own space and if the ray...

False piraiba, Brachyplatystoma capapretum, ~10", in 4500 gal

I did not know it needed a response, I think you made a good account of yourself in response to my comment. I do not claim to know the answers, was just making a statement of opinion. I know that you know what you are doing and that means you can keep the parameters well under control. My...

    Tigrinus issue

I don't think that is fungus. Keep up the water changes.

    Diet of small Tigrinus catfish

I wonder if a varied diet is key, my tig is over 12 inches. If feeding prawns, I only ever feed cooked prawns that then have vitamins added, the theory being that cooking helps remove the thiamin issue. I also feed freshwater bait fish from the fishing shop along with sprats (saltwater) I...

    Devastated

I am sorry to hear this, I lost one a few years back; it is quite upsetting. I think they move across land in the wild to find mates or food / new water. I glued egg grate over all the openings where filter pipes come in and I weigh down the cover glass with bags full of gravel. If there is...

Need assistance want to convert to moving bed for my rays

If you can do a drip system that would make it easier. If your parameters are fine then keep it simple. I now use pond matting, ceramic balls and some static k3.

At what age do rays usually stop breeding?

Richard / aquaman45 was breeding his female marble motoro up to age 25.

Need assistance want to convert to moving bed for my rays

Moving bed won't help reduce water changes unless you are water changing to remove ammonia or nitrate. Moving beds can be problematic with correct movement and not blocking pumps etc. What do you want to improve or achieve? I still do large water changes with constant drip to keep nitrates low.

    New 240 cube

Nice tank but for rays I would glue over the weir and drill a few bulkheads at the top on the rear and run the sump that way..it won't be big enough for a fully grown Leo though.

Ok but very little by infusion.

    Sick Black Spotted Spiny Eel

I don't think any fish can do a lot to break its own back, it is more likely nerve damage or muscle damage. It certainly does not look well though
