Can you keep cichla of different sizes together? I currently have a 13" and today got 3 new 5-6" cichlas. The 13" has been chasing the smaller ones nonstop around the pond. Is this just over territory or will she eventually kill them??

Hey guys just finished my first build with help/ideas from previous threads. This pond is 8x4x3 with a DIY filter. Inhabitants will be a 13" RTC 8" TSN 9" Gar and hopefully some 6-10" peacock bass in the future. Right now the pond is cycling with a largemouth bass and a cichlid. Any feedback...

Hey guys what kind of water do you use for your ponds? I live on a lake and was wondering if I could use lake water or would it be better to use water from the hose with dechlorinator? Thanks

i dont know, but ive heard only females can get that large so im assuming its female/female. At this time they seem to be okay, however the smaller bass has very bright stress colors at all times.

Do you keep her by herself or with other big bass? I have an 8 lber that ive had for a couple months and recently put another 6 lber with her. They seem to not get alone and im worried she might kill the smaller bass.

Ive seen bass die from having a bluegill caught in their throat so i cut them off before hand. Sometimes i dont cut them off tho and they still look like that. I'll check the ammonia. If its ammonia how come the bass isnt affected?

In my pond small fish do not survive. They always die after a few days and look like this. The fins are removed bc i feed them to my lmb. Some i leave the fins on but they still die. Any help? Thanks

So i have a 7lb bass in a 2500 gallon pond who has just recently started eating. along with that bass i have in the pond 2 gold fish that he is friends with and 2 large sucker fish (plato). Today i caught a 4lb bass and decided to put it in the pond with the 7lber... The 7lber will not stop...

GREAT NEWS, all the cichlids, the blue gill and the 2 shinners vanished... thinking the bass finally ate. we went to the bait store bought a dozen large shinners. needless to say they are no longer living

my brother told me a rumor that he heard. it said that if the bass's fin on his back is down she is stressed... i have yet to see that fin come up on our bass

well like i said he likes to sit under the waterfall where we cant see him, the other day we scared him out with a net, he swam away good. doesnt look sick, but i think the sore is still there. after the first week we got him, i witnessed him chase and trash a brim... i dont think he got it...
