I agree with the arguments here....my question will be that juvenile gars are hungry all the time and my experience is they tend to swallow anything you feed them....?

I would say it is relatively safe to comm gars and bichirs. I have them cohabiting peacefully. The only thing I would be uncomfortable with is that the gars will snatch all the food, leaving the Bichirs with lesser to eat and sometimes none.

How big is the gar that bit you? I have always had this phobia whenever I clean my gar tank but never really thought this would happen.

Just read the post on Lymphocystis by Xander. Question: What's the cause of this and any way to prevent this viral infection? Is it deadly? Is this a common gar disease or general fishes?

What you described sounded like what is exactly happening in my tank now. My PH dropped to 5.5 this morning (has been hovering around 5.75 the last 2 weeks) and added baking soda and now is at 6.0. I think the nitrification porcess is very slow....what else can I do? I am using the API...
