Better really strong filtration for a 50 Gallon aquarium?

There's literally no way you're going to be able to get those fish to grow to the size you're looking for and keeping the water clean enough to WANT to eat them in any reasonable amount of time. You'd be looking at changing huge volumes of water daily and putting in hundreds of hours of work for...

    Polypterus delhezi — some questions

Glad to hear the tank is on the way! I find Del's don't get nearly enough love... Everybody wants to go Endli because they're a little bigger or ornates etc. But I think your original plan of a pile of Del's and Bushfish would make for an awesome tank. As far as CB Del's size yeah most of...

I do love baby Sens. They're what got me in to this part of the hobby about 12 years ago. Good lord I'm getting old.

Looking for Poly specific health info... Del Bloat/dropsy

A month after this post Mr. Del has been added to the 75g - after the second round of Maracyn 2 the fish never ballooned back up and the redness around the fins subsided. Fed the little bugger every couple of days, would do water changes, then fed 2-3 days in a row with water changes, never...

    29G Planted build thread

Update! Been about two weeks and have made some significant changes. The main Crypt perked up and is doing awesome, the Repens has fluffed up quite a bit and are an awesome shade of green and the Tennellum has been doing it's thing growing well and establishing runners. Though it was doing...

Scored a free 125 gallon and stand this last weekend, and we are taking the polypterus-plunge!

I'd avoid the catfish as they tend to be food vacuums and the Polys can be a little slow to the punch -

    Gsps went rogue

    Planting my tank

+1 With Cryptocoryne Wendtii and I'll add in Cryptocoryne Affinis Great looking plants for any set up, low tech or otherwise. They grow nicely and cover a decent amount of the bottom. My polys love laying around the edges of them

    Choosing a Light

I've got Nicrew lights on both of my tanks, super affordable and they've done a great job with low to medium light plants.

    29G Planted build thread

Good question but I don't really know. I'd imagine you could test on a set schedule and see how it changes over time? Got a decent amount of plants in the 75 but the 29 is the first "dedicated" planted tank that I've tried, so i'm sure there will be lots of ups and downs. I still picked...

Stocking ideas for my 90 gallon

You'd have no problem with that stock list whatsoever... and calculator or not you could likely have a few other odd and end fish, especially if you add some plants to eat up nitrates

    How to do Salt Baths?

I guess it depends on what you're doing the dip for, when I was recently treating a poly I was using 1 TBSP of epson salt per gallon in a bucket, mixing making sure temps were comparable and then putting him in for 25 minutes before adding back to the QT

    Snail-dozer

You could add plant weights to everything with a less than perfect root system and add some small rubble rock to try to keep the logs locked in place, but there's nothing you can do to get a snail to act differently

HELP small delhezi with red spots on stomach?

If you had that fish for 2-3 years it was sick long before now and only a matter of time before it finally died. Polys are extremely hardy fish and it takes a lot to put them down for the count.. I doubt it's anything overly transferable or you'd be seeing issues with the other fish
