    sump question

Why not both? Let the water go into the filter sock as the main mechanical filtration, and leave the sponges just before the water reaches the bio-media as a pre-filter used to capture dirt while you are cleaning the sock.

Schooling Fish: Six The Magic Number

I usually go for as many as my tank can handle (without compromising on the no. of other species I can keep of course). To me, 6 just is a benchmark, a bare minimum. So yeah, always aim for more.

First attempt at a planted tank

Got some ottos!!! Finally gave in and bought a bunch of ottos as part of my algae crew. It was pricey at $1.50 per piece but totally worth it. Those cuties went straight for the algae the moment i added them into the tank. Also, my lobsters have began to colour up into a nice orange hue...

to much air in the water

I guess as long as your tank isn't literally a bubble bath, it won't be a problem.

Ouch, that hurts. Well you could cut out part of the broken panel to use as lids for your tank.

First attempt at a planted tank

Just a quick update Had an algae bloom recently. But fixed it by water changes, reducing light and increasing CO2 bps. Also I've added more yamato shrimps to deal with them, and my black mollys have been picking on algaes on the plants. Here is the tank as of now Hygrophila pinnatifia is...

    Twinstar against algae

Never tried it before. But it's a hit over here in Singapore. Especially on shrimp tanks. And if shrimps can handle it, don't see why fishes can't

    Confused by ferts

Nice info mate! I've read that adding a layer of peat before substrate (soil) aids in the release of nutrients. Any thoughts of that?

    Confused by ferts

Another thing, are u dosing CO2 in your tank? It is one of the 3 important things your plants need (Light, CO2, Nutrients). If you don't have a co2 setup, you can dose Seachem Excel, which is liquid carbon. And remove seachem carbon from your filter. They just absorb the nutrients you are dosing.

    Confused by ferts

I'm relatively new to planted tank as well. But I know ferts are divided into macro and micro nutrients. Flourish contains micro nutrients. Macronutrients are basically NPK (nitrogen, phosphate and potassium) I am currently dosing the Seachem line as well and I think the dosing regime is easy...
