    Another Possible Tank Coating Sani-Tred

I'd suggest getting some first hand experience with a product before giving a recommendation like that. It's really not fair to go off of hearsay. The primer and following their directions to the letter are very important with this product just as they are with others. I think you may be safe...

    PVC rings as Biomedia?

It will work, if you had access to a cement mixer, put the rings in there with a couple shovels of sand and let run, check progress and stop while there is still some PVC left ;). Or you could use lava rock, way more surface area and your done. Dr Joe .

Question about drilling and Walmart Pools

:headbang2Wahoo!!!:headbang2 New pond! With that pump, you'll get about 1/2" of water flow in those waterfalls/rapids. If your putting holes in, I'd go with 2 three inch pipes for good flow and little chance of blockage. . Only time I've had Pacu nibble the liners is when they were very...

    Quick Question on Pools

Well at least you have time to save some of your lunch money ;). (4) 55g barrel (plastic) filters, one mechanical, three biological (one could be a algae scrubber). And a bio-tower for the coolness factor (ok so they're great for bio too). Insulate the bottom from the ground (cement) with 3"...

What are the chances of killing BB with filter change?

Wow, I think you've figured out most of what you did wrong, and what you will and won't do next time right?, so we will move on. ;) As tcarswell said do water changes every two days till you see an improvement in water quality from the filter, your basically starting over re-cycling the filter...

    Filter sock questions

Cleaning is kind of a catch 22... After the sock catches the detritus, the detritus starts eroding and if the sock isn't cleaned frequently you end up with finer detritus in the tank and that's harder to filter out. I usually suggest a 200 inside of a 100 sock, just shorten up the 200 a little...

    Filter Felt Pad

Can you use filter socks to pre-filter, small micron filters on drip plates slow flow too much (unless you have a slow filter). Otherwise 100 micron if you have no other choice. Why are you tired of the other material? Dr Joe .

OH NOES! Not Another Sump/Pump Size Question...

If that's the space you have available, two 40's, 100 micron filter sock inside a 10 micron filter sock on the input of each one (yes there will be cleaning, can't get away from it with that bio-load and and your space constrictions. Only one divider (between the socks and the bio-material)...

    FX5s plumbed together inline?

Run them in parallel off manifolds (zennzzo) or get a non-powered canister filter (like Ocean Clear)(not crazy about powering one of these with a fx5). HarleyK does bring up a point... Are you trying to keep a half grown Wells cat in the 180g? :screwy::D Dr Joe .

    pot scrubbies in fx5

Hey!, how about trying it for us (I know others are already doing it and are happy but...). With your setup it could make for a good comparison study. The filter is a little fast (for such tight quarters for media) but will work and definitely won't clog as fast as the other media ;). You can...

whats the good and the bad for haveing a tank magnet?

Gee, Look how many people admit to having algae  Like the other say, it has it's place, and you can't get sand in one if you don't have substrate :D. John's still trying to figure out how to waterproof a Roomba ;). Dr Joe .

Pico tank, just like the big boys, only shrunk to <2 gallons

Well, atleast you won't have to spend alot on plants I think algae may be to big for it ;). PFK = PicoFishKeeper (you started it). Dr Joe .

    Another "sump design" thread.

It's just not as funny when it has to be explained... FBF gets so clogged that nitrates can't pass. (and what justin guest said). Dead algae from scrubber falls into sump rotting and sludge goes anaerobic. Now that your done picking at a not so serious post, let's how you can help him with...

    project rivertank

Got a drawing of this? Skimmer will work in F/W but unless it's overstocks with alot of D.O.C.'s it's not worth the trouble to mod one. Interesting project Dr Joe .
