    Thiaminase immunity

Maybe in an aquarium setting, but right now some fish populations (particularly salmonids) are really suffering from thiamine deficiency issues.

    My Fish Crew

Oh boy. It's been over a year since my last update and boy, a lot has changed haha. For starters, I moved and downsized. No more 75, just a 125: Stocking has changed significantly. I had to part with Red (Red Severum), Sam (Green Severum) and Eli (EBA) because I just didn't have the space...

    “Large” fish, planted tank?

My Severum's destroyed any plants. They enjoyed the $20 salads I would occasionally put in the tank :wall:

I should also mention that 75 is a teaser of what the 125 will look like when it's all said and done. I havtoe two more pieces of manzanita wood that will go in the tank, and I'm planning for anubias to be tied to branches throughout the tank. Stocking will be: 6x RHT 22x Lemon Tetra 11x...

    My Fish Crew

Update Time! It’s been 7 months since I got my fish order, and I still haven’t been able to make the stocking switch up happen because I’ve been waiting for the fish in the 75 to get big enough to go in the 125. I’m finally comfortable enough with how big they are, so the switch should happen...

    What is a biotope?

Oh this is a fun thought exercise that I can overthink from a biology perspective! Couple factors we need to think about here: 1) If the waterbodies have always been connected, why is a fish species just now starting to spread out and outcompete other species? Straying to other areas of a...

    My Fish Crew

Thanks, Its interesting, ich has become a non-issue for me over the past couple years. When I see it come up, usually treating with cupramine solves all problems, but last time the 75 had an ich outbreak, I lost 10-11 rummynose and 5-6 cardinals, which is why I'm a little more on edge than...

    How’s the weather?

We are in the midst of an 8 day stretch of much needed rain. Makes my job hard, but I absolutely love the rain and the salmon need it!

    My Fish Crew

I guess everything couldn't continue to go perfectly lol. Caught a small ich outbreak in the 75 the other day. Treated with cupramine and now just waiting to see if everything goes well. Since its winter and the fish are in the garage, I can't get the tank above 78 degrees, when I'd normally...

    Tapajos and Serpae Tetra?

That is definitely the best solution lol. A group of Angels and RHT with a schooling fish should be possible in a 125 or bigger!

    Keyhole biotope

I wouldn't recommend any Severum species in a tank that large. I also wouldn't include H. sp rotkeil as a species as of Severum that is both widespread and has been domestically raised for generations in fish farms, so I don't think it would be as adaptable to harder water.

    Keyhole biotope

I agree that fish are adapted to their local waters, which works well for fish with limited ranges. For wide ranging species such as efasciatus, you will see variations in habitat, with certain populations adapted to living in soft water, and other adapted to living in harder waters. After...

    Tapajos and Serpae Tetra?

I think both plans would work. You could definitely keep a pair in a 55 with a group of dithers (although they will try and eat fry). I'm passively letting my two pairs spawn but neither pair have gotten eggs to hatch because they get pushed off their eggs by the Severum who eat them.
