Predatory Goby stalk and strike positions

PS: apparently there's a blind-white cave version on the south coast, but not seen since the 1990s

Predatory Goby stalk and strike positions

I love these "mudfish" - they're in our rivers also, I used to keep on purpose but these days I end up with tiny juveniles as bycatch with shrimp, or they come with a waterlily. I've been trying to get juvenile of the BIG & toothy mudfish (bigmouth sleeper), but they're too quick & smart for me...

    ABK parasite treatments?

My vet has fenbendazole in a liquid - can work? <https://www.aquabiotics.ca/index.php/product/fendendazole/> suggests "sure" Thoughts on dose for a 100gal? - i'll disconnect the live-sump for a day or three...

    ABK parasite treatments?

Elsewhere on MFK I've seen posted/recommended 100ml of the praziquantel liquid per 1000L of aquarium - agreed? This stuff has proven elusive on my island; I can get powders & tubes of apple-flavoured paste for livestock, but no simple/raw liquid form.

    American eels at Fish Story

Eels are also weirdly strong vs catfish-teeth, but they're also bendy so maybe more swallowable....

    American eels at Fish Story

re: "So you are saying this marine biologist and conservationist and the director of the University of Texas Mission-Aransas Reserve couldn't tell an American eel from Conger eel???" It would seem so, yes. He may have misID's in the moment & the photographer posted before he confirmed, or he may...

Pacu: can be trusted in a lily pond?

Thought of that, but the aesthetics of mesh protections will be an issue... Fair enough: we'll either roll-dice & remove if/when there's an issue, including possibly letting the lilies go if she really loves the pacu, or talk the client out of the purchase/introduction - a conversation we've...

Super aggressive Freshwater Dolphin fish (Mormyrid)

Temperature? My tanks aren't heated & the air's getting down to 17C in recent overnight storms, back up into the 20s with the sunrise. Nobody seems to be suffering, not even in the lilypond. The importer's got these, apparently; I'd have to do another wall-build to get the space, which would...

Pacu: can be trusted in a lily pond?

Big (tropical) pond installation with various lilies & water-plants. Currently parimarily alb.rid.shark (12@~18"), tinfoil barbs (~6@~8") african cichilds, alb.oscars, clown loach & sundry little stuff, snails etc. The client's been for drinks at the neighbour & adores the 18" albino pacu in the...

Aquarium Wall Built Into House Wall?

We set a 7'10" x 3' x 18" ~230gal into the concrete wall at the far end of our entrance hallway. There should be a build Q&A thread on here somewhere... The back, sides & bottom are steel-float concrete with 3x coats of WestSystem epoxy seal, which looks great as the epoxy makes the mottled...

Auchenipterichthys coracoideus (zamora woodcat): Internal Fertilization!

I'll keep you posted Exotic$4me, but I'm not beyond recreatonal fingers-crossed with habitat enhancements (tubes/leaves). What I can tell you is that these fish are probably 4~5years old, so fully-mature, in a 100gal "show/long" with a 20gal drum-canister full of aged/old bamboo charcoal, and...

Auchenipterichthys coracoideus (zamora woodcat): Internal Fertilization!

Lovely, thanks Fallen_Leaves16. <14-days to laying is useufl, thanks. From there the PlanetCatfish posts suggest <10-days to hatch from laying, which feels a long dice-roll in my tank but we'll keep everybody well-fed, the water refreshed & the fingers crossed. I like the idea that the the...

Auchenipterichthys coracoideus (zamora woodcat): Internal Fertilization!

I did find one of these Planet Catfish with the video of the chase & grab, and somebody talking about eggs & juveniles - thanks. Not interested in selling or export, but I quite like them & would love an ongoing population as these guys are rarely imported & supper'spensive these days. ... or...

    Tire Eel Breeding

I'm going to disagree with what appears to be the concensus: parthenogenesis does happen and it's usually terribly rare, which would jibe with this "not recorded" example's box. Other fish might have been breeding to stir the hormonal soup, or another contaminant stimulant, or just...

Auchenipterichthys coracoideus (zamora woodcat): Internal Fertilization!

I came down into my dungeon-office last night to feed & lock-up, and low&behold a male & female zamora were on their backs side-by-side in the sort of love-lock we see in stingrays & nurse-sharks: "clasper" inserted, white muck excess dribbling (apologies for graphic). Of course a catfish...

    Home live foods

... and, if the primary food is "turf" benthic/surfaces algae & other/similar surface films, then (bladder) snails will be competitor, at least until they become food. I'll not add until population is fully established. ... and try to convert the greenwater to free nutrient for said algae...

    Home live foods

Deadeye "How many do you have now?" Started with maybe a half-dozen in the summertime (July~Aug?). I'll add more floating plant, as the duckweed seems to have been gobbled. I've moved a dozen++ into the ~15gal greenwater bucket in the garden (sunshine) where I'll soon be sinking bamboo segments...

    Home live foods

I have questions about amphipods culture. Do I ask here, or in the Intertibrates section (which is invert pets)? Question: How long does it take from a half-dozen individuals to a feed-stock concentration? I've been babying these things in a 10gallon greenwater on the windowsill for months, &...

Clown Loach breeding and export study

This is interesting, as we're all told that CL are hot-water species, thriving towards 30C; he's suggesting back to +&- 26C. His system is outdoor - how does he control within these margins? I want to hear FishDance's take on this...
