Everything You've Ever Wanted To Know About Keeping Gulper Catfish

I would have no desire to own one of these serial fish killers and give it a big F. Funny how some view this fish's gulping talent as cool, I find it down right disrespectful ha ha ha. The people who own these kinds of fish, you got to wonder about them.

THIS IS FOR ALL THE TALL-TANK MFK'S

How would you vacuum the substrate on a 3ft+ tank ? I bet trying to net fish in a 3ft+ tank would be a PITA. Is it true you need thicker glass for taller tank ?

    Ultimate Noob Stand with 1x3 frame ( 6x24x32 )

Built with 1x3's, doubled up on corners. I used 3/4 ply for top and underneath and 1/2 for bottom of stand. I was going to use 1/8 but figured since I already had the 3/4 - 1/2 ply, might as well use it. The sides are 1/8 ply. The stand is very sturdy even with 1x3. If I had to do it again...

Worried that your stand won't hold up?

The problem with glue is if you make any mistakes, you can't undue it. I've had some vertical posts not perfectly straight and they did not fit well and didn't find this out until after the glue dried. Apparently placing a piece of wood upright does not necessarily mean it's vertically squared...

    moving 240 G fish tank

That is an interesting idea. It might also work as a frame to put the tank inside and hold it in place. You could add cushions all around, then drag it upstairs. With enough support, I would think you could man handle it with no problem. Or you might put it on a heavy blanket and pull/lift...

help moving fish, little guy might not last long...

I know what you mean, in my 75, trying to catch a fish is a chore. What I do is remove any and all decorations, then I use two nets, one for directing the fish where I want them to go and the other for scooping them. One of the most difficult fish to catch was surprising a molly fish, I think...

    Moving big fish.

The key is to lower the water level until they can't move much, they lose the will to fight and splash once they no longer have their free space to swim, then they will have no choice but to go into your net. I also find that they will do so willingly, perhaps they feel its the only wise choice...

Microbe Lift Products - Your Opinion

You have to remember too, for many fish keepers in today's world, chlorine is the not the only concern, now it's something even more problematic chloramines. The Microbe-Lfit concept is aged water, it's about establishing the right Eco-friendly aquarium, not just conditioning the water...

    ID

Those are Bichirs, $100 seems a lot for only 10 inches, then again I'm cheap when it comes to paying for fish lol They certainly are nice though, probably worth it. I would low ball him at $65 and hope he wouldn't go past 75 :D I think $50 is a fair price for both, $25 each.

Now this one is for all the WIDE tank MFKers!

Yes width is Goood and what I'm looking to do on my future tank, plywood, 72x36x not sure of height. Is 30 too high in terms of maintenance reach ? I think I might not like the vacuuming part if it were so high, but I know my fish would love the extra height. Is there any rule of thumb about...

turn heater off when cleaning your aquarium.

I thought the newer heaters turned off automatically once they are out of water ?. This would make it safe to not have to unplug them.

    stand leveling

I just finished my 6ft frame using only 1x3's, it's plenty strong, so 1x4 would definitely be strong enough. BTW - a good tip for leveling is to put a sheet of plywood underneath for the stand to sit on and also one on top. This will help it level off or get close enough.

    What kind of net???

No matter what you use, you'll need holes in it to move through the water. At least with the plastic strainer, the holes are too big for fish to get snagged on. I've used it many times and it's quick, safe and fast. Perhaps, they need to make a net with larger holes for bigger fish ?
