It would appear the window was not properly held in place based on the pictures. I could be wrong but to the OP, did you brace the siliconed window to the side of the tank with anything else besides those couple of quick grips? If not that may have been your problem on getting the window to seal...

How do you plan on building your plywood tank? Straight up plywood, framed with plywood interior, or stacked with plywood interior? With so many ways to build a plywood tank and so many ways to waterproof one that should eliminate some options on waterproofing.

Now if that is truly what you are looking to do why couldn't you just make a background for the bottom of the tank with sand embedded into it like most DIY backgrounds are built? Just a thought.

I have always been a fan of this type of tank setup. Does not use sand but may give you a few ideas. There are a few other videos out there.
