polymer clay

Hi all, my cousin is makes little fairy houses and stuff out of polymer clay. I was complaining about none of the pre made caves at the store being big enough and she offered to make a custom cave for River (my GT) but I'm not sure its safe for the tank, would she have to coat it in epoxy...
