wood fungi

Hello So around a month ago I put a piece of wood into my 75 gallon tank and noticed right away that a thick white substance was forming on the wood (I'm guessing fungi). And so I took it out and cleaned all of it off. But it ended up growing again. I repeated this process like two more times...
