Hey guys,
I’m at my LFS and they have this ray in here listed as a teacup. I asked what species and they don’t know, just that it came in as a teacup. Hoping someone can help me ID it. Thanks!

This is an interesting one. Tough to see the colors but looks hybrid with maybe p14 and Motoro. Will be easier to tell in a few months. If hybrid will be impossible to know for sure but we can estimate.

I am hesitant to pull the trigger on it simply because I have a 180 gal (6x2x2) and I know only a few species can live in one for life and I don’t want to get a “teacup” and end up having to rehire it in a year.

Really only 2 rays would be comfortable in a 180. Teacup not being an actual species, you are limited to either a mini marble or a hystrix. A 180 would be good for 2 years for most species in my opinion.

That’s what i’ve read. I’ve been looking for either a hystrix or scobina forever but can’t find any at all because of the ban in brazil. So you think this “teacup” ray could grow out in my 180 for about 2 years? I’m about 90% sure it’s a male as well. Thanks
