1 1/2" OVERFLOW

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't see why not I have mine exactly like the lay out u have but. 3/4.I'm sure urs will have a lot mmore flow. Just don't forget the check valve

Make it with that layout and at the top drill a hole add a check valve and that's it then it will always restart. When I get home from work ill drop a link that shows ur same layout working

Yes, 1.5" works fine as an overflow. I have a single 1.5" drain on my system with two 1" returns, it runs roughly 3500 l/h. I know that the comb on my weir restricts the flow though and it will go higher when I eventually have zero fish under 4" and take the comb off.

But, to your question the answer is a definite "yes".

is a mag 18 and 3/4" pipe not enouph flow?

I have the same thing going on right now. i have one 3/4" return and a 1.5" drain. I just ordered a Mag 18 online, but it hasn't arrived yet.

For the last 6 months i have been running a weak 800gph pump on my 240 gallon tank and i estimate that i am only getting 500GPH so roughly 2 turnovers per hour. I had several small fish and everything was fine but I just started adding young monster fish to the tank. Now I am starting to see gunk build up on the bottom and decided the upgrade was necessary.

My concern is not that I won't get enough turn over, but what if the drain can't handle to increase in GPH. Might have to find a way to add some resistance to the flow. I should know in about a week.
