I did a usual water change yesterday and I noticed that in the water from vaccuming there were these small black wiggling worms. It looks alot like little mosquito larvae or whatever. Is this possible for mosquitos to have babies in my tank? And if so, how can I get rid of them? Also thats just my opinion of what they look like, may vary well be something else, any help would be much appreciated.

my camera takes terrible pics, you wouldnt even be able to tell they were there in the pic. sry. I'm pretty sure thats what it is, then again there may something else that looks like this idk. The fish may be eating them idk, they probably arent interested though, my cichlids dont seem to interested in small snacks usually, they want meals. What could I do to get rid of them? the fish do not seem to be affected by them at all and are acting fine, but I want them out.

It's very likely whatever they may be, they are feeding on leftover food in the tank. I suggest you vacuum the gravel well and scrape your glass, and then do a water change. I would then not feed my fish for 3 days and that should starve out whatever it is, at least most of them. I had a similar issue with small white larvae about 1/4" long x 1/32 wide. Starving them out worked and I haven't seen them since.

would my fish be ok if I go without feeding them for three days? I know its not planaria or anything like that, if its not mosquito larvae its some other type of insect, maybe a fly? would insects feed on leftover fish food?
