Just got one today because it looked like it was worth a shot for 10 bucks...It looks like on the flowers it has shiny stuff around them and it has red on some of the fins and under the throat.

anyway I was wondering how long I should keep it in my 10 gallon untill I move it to the 55?

It seems to like the plants and swims in and out of everything but it cant fit the new life spectrum food in its mouth and it doesn't notice the hikari baby pellets at the top. Which reminds me, should I feed it so soon? Should I wait until later tonight or tomorrow maybe?

should I wait until its about 2 or 3 inches to move it? Or will that stunt it?

sweet, should I move it this instant? or should I wait until tomorrow to relieve stress?

I hadn't planned on getting a response so quickly, I forgot to mention I have a red devil in the 55, but there is an egg crate divider in the middle as I didn't know if I could get rid of the red devil today or not. So if Petco decides to take my 6 inch female red devil then I cna move the flowerhorn downstairs tonight.

Or should I put it in the 75 with some 5 inch severums and nicaraguense? and a 2 inch green terror? (just for now of course)

I know I gave it to petco, because around here red devils are about 20 bucks for a 8 inch one or buy 1 get 2 free for 2 inch ones, but the people at petco were so excited about it they thought it was a monster.

Man it was only like 5-6 inches maybe and it was a female and it wasnt growin at all.

Yeah i moved the flowerhorn into the 55 today and theres driftwood, rocks and an air bubble strip and he is afraid of the bubbles but he comes to the front of the tank when I am in front of it.

my red devil also ust hid all the time and I dont think it was very healthy

thanks for all the info guys ill keep u updated on the growth later

Yes, it is used to its tank now, and I am feeding new life spectrum cichlasoma, hikari gold, and omega one krill.

I have driftwood that is still leaking tannins because I came down and my tank looks like a tad clearere than iced tea.

I soaked the dirftwood for almost 1 and a half months, will it ever quit turning my water tan?

I don't mind it unless it is harmful for my flowerhorn. It isnt enough humic acid to break my buffer in my tapwater so my pH is still at about 7.8. I think I have like very close to zero nitrates as well since I can just gravel vac the excess food or poop right off the top of the sand. So I am pretty sure it isn't affected any of my parameters.

I just wanted to say that it looks like mine has some shiny dots on each of its little scales, does this mean it will have these when it grows up too?

and do flowerhorns fade out when they get real big?
