None of your business!
Hi, my friend at work bought a little 1.8 inch buttikoferi cichlid in his 75 gallon tank. He is wondering when he should take his other African cichlids out(when he is big enough to kill other fish)?? He loves his little Butti but, he is a little worried when he will get aggressive?? I was about to buy one too, but I decided not to because of its size.

Buttikoferis are usually not killers at that size. The best thing to do is keep observing him daily, while planning for an aquarium to move him into when he gets to be too much for his tankmates. Really, the hobby is a lot of trail and error, also lots of observation. There aren't always clear cut answers.

You guys will have to keep an eye on them. The average IME is around 5"-6", but one that I've kept got aggressive around 7" but he was kept by himself. Some of them don't get aggressive at all, it depends on the fish so you may just end up getting lucky.

Like lostnight said when they do get aggressive it is wise to keep them by themselves.
