I have a custom 70g that developed a small crack. I dont have the money to buy a new setup and i cant afford to have someone rebuild this tank. Is there anyway i can repair and save this one. The crack developed in the back left corner and has progressed to 1-1.5". Can i fix it like a car windshield or glue a cmall piece of glass over it with some type of adhesive? What are my options? I dont care what it looks like bc its on the back. At best i'd like to fill it back up and use it as an aquarium. if not, i can use it as a 1/2 and 1/2 tank for turtles or maybe i can use it for a temp caimen tank. What are my options?

thanks for the bad news, someone give me some hope! anything i could to so that i would hold about 6" of water? I just need 20 gallons in this thing

Sorry to say it's probably going to spider out if any pressure is put on it.

Small chips can be repaired to a a point but as soon as it starts to crack like that the strength of the glass is near 0. The pressure difference on the two different size pieces caused by the crack create a sheering motion that spreads the crack. Even more so if its heated at all as the temperature changes cause expansion and contraction.

I guess the only way to fix a crack like that is to replace that panel of glass and possibly the adjacent panel (which would eliminate the full corner damage). but that involves taking the tank apart, buying a new peice of glass, a tube of silicone etc.

not sure if that is an option.

really, for the amount of labour and cash for new glass, you might be better to consider buying a used 70g in good shape for cheap.

Cant really know if it can be fixed till the crack reaches an endpoint. It could go diagonally aross the entire back of the tank.In that case I dont think Id trust a repair.I have a 75g with the side panel cracked top to bottom, took a side panel from a 40 breeder tank and siliconed it inside the tank.Been good for about a year like that.
You could take a small glass drill and try to drill a hole at the end of the crack then patch the crack and hole with a piece of glass. But the pressure of drilling is likely to spread the crack before you can finish the hole.
