At the moment i have 2 55 gallon tanks and 2 10 gallon tanks i am about to move house and i am going to put them all on a shelf so there all together and i may be getting another 55 gallon tank.

at the moment i am running external canister filters for the 2 55 gallon tanks and little internals for the 2 10 gallon tanks.

i am wondering how easy it would be to make/buy a filter that will do all the tanks for me save me cleaning all the filters separately and i am not going to have to worry about ph difference for different fish I'm doing some selling and buying of new fish so if someone can help me out here it would be great because i have no idea how this will work or what to do lol

any advice is much appreciated

and i do also realize that i could contaminate all the tanks this way but they are going to all be emptied cleaned and restarted fresh so i think i will be safe.

I imagine that most fish shops would operate this way so im sure its possible its just a matter of setting it up :)

thanks again

well you could put an over flow in each tank that would all drain into a wet/dry sump, which you could easily make your self (using tuberware totes/ old tank etc.. just search)
then you can have have a return pump pump water to the 4 separate tank via clear tubing split into four.

it not that hard to build. it works on the basis that the return pump will raise the water level(by pumping returned water) to a point that will 'over flow' into your overflow(drain) that will empty into ur w/d sump. and the cycle of filtering continues

btw i dont mean to talk over you, i dont know what your knowledge level is. sooooo hope that helps!!! good luck

using pvc insted of vinyl tubing will save you a TON of money.. and ball valves are a must so you can regulate the flow to each tank.. other than that ozpkchris prettymuch nailed it..

what size pump should i be looking at for 2 55 gallons and 2 10 gallons??

and if i decide to add another 55 gallon will i need a new bigger pump or can i allow for that now

and if i need a big pump i don't want it blowing the water back in the the 10g to hard because i do have quite a lot of plants in them.

this will be so much easier lol no more heaters to buy only 1 co2 kit to refill VERY easy for water changes

Sumps are awesome. Probably the best way to filter one or multiple tanks.
