I've got a pair of angelfish with a larger male that has been breeding since I got them a month ago. The first time I wasn't ready for it yet so it didn't work out and then I moved them to a bigger tank and they laid eggs then ate that batch. Last week they laid some more and I've got the fry in a small tank. The obsessive part is that the female has laid the eggs on the very tip of the slate (has an angle cut like a 45 and leans against the tank.) I don't know why she does that way up there (has sword plants too which they move the eggs too later on,) or how he gets most of them fertilized.

Anyway, my question is if the female is fanning the eggs like crazy almost constantly (the male does it pretty lamely for a few seconds at times till she comes over to do it right, he doesn't protest but is the first for the food....) She looks like a humming bird almost and even gets sideways, seems like she going full speed without moving every time I look. Sooooo....would all this effort shorten her life span or anything? I can do the airstone thing but easier and more natural to let them take care of the first week in my opinion, (also no anti-fungus chemicals involved.) I left some in there with them and they were very good, after a couple weeks they didn't ever eat them as far as I can tell but I had a bunch of stuff going on and didn't change their water so I think they died :( It's got a sand bottom which makes it difficult kinda, should go bare bottom sometime. Fun to watch too, the first time the eggs would be on the slate one day and on the plant the next, back and forth every day.

Thats what they would do in nature as well. Just make sure she is getting some high quality food to keep her going.

I would leave them as that is natural behavior. Between spawns you could perhaps use a clear divider to give her a break and feed her some high quality foods to condition her nicely.

I would also recommend bare bottom as it is way easier to keep the water quality pristine.
