hey all ! about a week ago, i woke up to find 1 of my 2 leaf fish lying down sideways on the bottom of the tank, i dont know what killed him, i hope i didn't overfeed him! whenever i fed them he would always hide in the leaves and not come out to eat immediatly like the other one, so i have 1 leaf fish left:cry: since then i added a crab in there to help keep things clean, well about 4 days ago i notised that my remaining leaf fish jaw was kind of lopsided, so i figured that he got to close to the crab and the crab fought back. So the side of his lip is sliced, and if you know leaf fish you know that there mouth acts as a siphon and sucks the food in! well ever since that slice he has lost the suction and it is very hard for him to eat, anyone have any suggestions of how i can persuade him to eat? will his wound grow back? i have seen him lying on his side at the bottom of the tank several times, but when i get closer he pops back to life LOL kinda scary yet funny, almost as if he is acting like a dead leaf ^_^' if anyone has any suggestions please let me know? ill keep this post updated with a picture of his wound and his condition.....thank you in advance :(

if you could train him to eat prepared food it would be eazier to catch or just thump the feeder before you give it to the leaf

he is too small to be fed feeders, i have him on freez dried blood worms, they float at the top.

Ok here is the pic of him i took about 30 min ago, i have marked the areas i am concerned with an arrow, i will write the questions i have beneth the picture.
Ajar.jpg

FIRST notice how his jaw is already hyper extended and he is not feedig it just always hangs out like that, i think the crab may have cliped a ligament that causes that to close (maybe theres a way that i can push it back into place?)
SECOND i know those are his gills, but are they supposed to be that visible? they look exposed.
THIRD both of my leaf fish had this when i got them, is it an injury or a defect?

After viewing the pic can you think of anything i could try that i could help him?
thank you in advance ;)

those are leopard ctenopoma/ctenopoma a. and that is pretty wierd actually. if he won't feed though its not a good thing, mostly ends horrible.

alright well i don't think he is looking to good, so i felt i had to take drastic measures, i made sure my hands were spick and span, and i gently held him between my fingers, and i attempted to pop his lip back in place, i think it worked, i am not sure yet, ill check when i get back home. it may seem like a crazy idea, but i can't just sit there and watch him suffer, he barly budged when i held him so i could tell he was weak, im hoping he will be able to eat better now, because i think he is starving because he can't eat due to his injuries, but ill wait and see, ill keep yall updated.

This is it! when i got home to check on my leaf fish he had no eyes and was gutted, that SOAB Crab got to him, whenever i keep fish in my tank something bad always happens to them? makes me sad, anyways just keeping yall posted, *SIGH* it would have been cool to see my leaf fish grown up AKA Monsterfish.

i smell a toilet for the crab

Sorry to ressurect this topic, but i never posted any updates about what happend. I had forgotten the crab was hiding in the pump and so when i changed the filter and pushed it all the way in, i heard a CRUNCH i thought SH** and sure enough i had accadently crushed the crab. I felt kind of bad, since that is no way to die, however he did KILL my leaf fish so HAAAAA!
