I have one pike and two jd's living together in a 40 gallon breeder tank. They all seem to get along well together. No one fish is the domanant at this point. They are all rather young fish. JD's are about 14 months old and the pike is slightly younger. The bigger jd "male" is about 5 inches long and the female is about half the size. My question is since I put the pike in about 6 months ago the jd's won't eat live food. Before i added the pike they would. They do eat cichlid flakes. Fish have plenty of room with little or no quarrels. I don't know what to do.

what kind of pikes do you have? Depending on what you have, you'll probably have to upgrade :)

I dont see a problem with them not eating live food....Its really a good thing! better than the other way around:) welcome to MFK by the way

thanks for the welcoming. The store said it was a golden pike cichlid. Its about 4.5 inches long and loves gups, reds and golds. I guess anything it can fit in its mouth. Very impressive. I guess maybe my jd's are in aull of this eating machine with fins.

Gotta love the elastic stomach. Watch the JDs and the pike though, if it is what i think it is...once it reaches about 6 to 7" its gonna dominate. Pikes are aggressive cichlids that often dominate tankz...cuz they don't back down and are willin to fight...lol. I've got all my pikes on frozen cocktail shrimp, krill, sinkin pellets, and mysis shrimp. I occassionally feed earthworms and live foods. Point being, you don't have to feed your pike live foods. Its risky cuz of parasites, and if you just feed it goldfish it will miss out on several very important nutrients. At least throw in some earthworms. No pike can resist them...lol.

I think the JDs cant compete with the pike, got scared and gave up.

My Hoplarchus psittacus compete with my pikes...and they are about like uaru...so i think the JDs shouldn't wimp out as easily. Feed at both ends of the tank at the same time...pikes are fast...lol...might just get the food first.
