I was wondering how it would be possible to hook one sump up for three different tanks. I want to hook up all the tanks in my garage to give them better filtration and so I can try and heat them all together. I was just curious how the plumbing would work as they are all different heights. Is there a way to use just one pump for the returns and use gravity to siphon into the sump? I just got my 10,000 gph pump in tht im going to use on my big tank in the future. But in the meantime I want to use it for the tanks with my big fish in them. Can you guys help me out on how I would go about doing this?

Here is a picture of the tanks. Its a 125, a 300, and a 700 gallon.

nevermind. i found another thread with this question. I just need to run all the tanks to the sump from gravity and use the pump as a return. But I need to split it three ways and put valves so i can control the flow to the tanks. It will be my project tomorrow. :D

Those three, you've hardly got space to move as it is. :)
I've seen multiple aquariums on one sump, but they were on the same ply/cinder block stand since its easier that way, and the gravity.
I would imagine with a bit of creative plumbing, it would be possible, I'd be afraid if one tank was hit with a disease, the rest would be in the same water. You'd have to make sure your overflow can handle your return.

the only thing I am really trying to accomplish is the heating of the tank through the sump. I dont have enough heaters to heat the 700, but if I put 3 or 4 300 watts in a 100 gallon sump with the big pump, maybe I will have success at heating it. I think I am going to put my sump on just the 700 and move the big fish in there if the heating is successful. Do you think it will work?

Well that would depend on the temperature of your (basement?), how much it fluctuates, and which heater you are using, as some are more efficient than others and need less wpg to heat efficiently. If your temp fluctuates more than 10 degrees either way, I would personally want about 5wpg.

Have you looked into titanium heaters? Not sure if the power consumption would be less or more than 3 or 4 300 watt heaters, but they come in wattage's as high as 800 and are reliable.

exactly, i would just do like the petstores do and link them all to one large sump, then have a large return split 3 ways. and as for heating that large, i would suggest the titanium heaters, i heard monster keepers use them for setups like this, they are good heaters for a good price, and have temperature controllers

i am going to buy a couple of 1000 watt heaters pretty soon for my big tank im building anyway. Ill just use them until them for the 700. The tank is in the garage.
