i was at the lfs and i saw a great looking GT he's about a inch inch and half and his body already brightly colored and his tail is a bright orange. the owner said he would hold on to him for me until i get situated i have a 20gal currently cyclling i was gonna put a pair of cons in there but when i saw him i was like if i don't buy him i'll regret it. now my question is how long can i keep him in a 20gal i know i can get a bigger tank later but it will take some time for me to save up for one. also if i get him could i put anything in there to help control algae if it becomes a problem?
thanks,

for the most part. a lot of times people get into your situation wanting to grow a fish up in a smaller tank thinking they will buy a larger tank later on when it becomes necessary. however, you never know what life will throw at you. something major could go wrong with your car or house, you may wind up switching jobs or you may get sick and miss a lot of time at work causing you to get financially behind. the point is you may wind up having to spend that money you saved up and then you're left with a big fish in too small a tank. just something to think about.
