Yep a little slow compared to some cichlids, and a bit shy so far, but that's fine for me.
Their tank is heavily planted, and they are housed with some wild type bettas, until the rostratum get too large.
Now about the 2 year mark, and these Central American eartheaters are darkening nicely.
Slow to mature, and at putting size, now about 5-6", but to me, definitely worth the wait.
