i just found him looked like the heater exploded and he was laying beside it. anybody else have this happen the heater was maybe 3 months old?

What brand heater. I'm sorry for your loss, may i suggest a Ehiem Jager heater, you won't have another problem. If some how, your fish broke it, try a shatter proof. How long you have him for?

it was a marineland shatter proof heater. i had hime for less than a year got him when he was 3". there was a algae eater in the tank it was alright.

I would do this too, I use Stelth heaters in my tanks. They are accurate and made of black plastic.

They make heaters made of titanium or some metal.... I have one, it wasnt any more expensive than a Jager and it has an external heat controller. The one I have was rated for about 90g, but heated my 125 no problem. It wont break either.
