I have an empty 10 gallon, and I'm looking for something to breed in it. Preferably something that an LFS will take, or I can sell on aquabid. I'm thinking about breeding some kind of shrimp maybe. Cherry reds and yellows are pretty cool. Will their offspring survive if I keep fish with them? Could I breed convicts in there? I think it's a bit small, but I've never tried. Can I even keep convicts with shrimp? I will have a 5 gallon for any fry as well. I can't upgrade to anything bigger, I already have a lot of weight on this second floor as it is. :(

convicts cant be with shrimp or in a 10g. Shrimp will be really nice for a 10g to breed , i perosonally like crystal reds :) a good investment on a starter bunch of nice shrimp will pay off in the end as they multiply quickly and easy to sell on aquabid or even here too :)

Thanks woofy. I think I'm gonna breed shrimp. Crystal reds are like $10 a piece though. How many should I buy to start out with?

i doubt ur lfs is going to want rcs for a price that you will be able to make a profit off of. And they definetly aren't going to want some convicts. Try breeding some panda bettas. definetly some profit in them.

I thought about bettas, but I'm not going to jar 300 bettas, and nobody around here will take them. All my LFSs sell the crappy, faded, ugly bettas in a 20ml cup of water... I'm probably going to stick with shrimp, unless I can find some nice, small, fish to breed. I'm trying to decide what kind of shrimp to breed. Any ideas from you all? I'm not doing this to buy a new car or something either, just make a few bucks and have some fun.

Just a little advice, try breeding ghost shrimp to get the hang if shrimp first, cause there easier and cheap to screw up on.

Shrimp would easily mate in a 10 gallon gallon and all you basically need is a heater and air stone. Work your way up to Cherry Shrimp cause they look the best! :D

if you are planning to breed shrimps try giving them live food (live tubifex) they will produce more fry,
you can go for cardinal tetras or even neon tetras as no LFS will refuse them.

In my experiance cons breed redily in a 10 but if you are looking for something cool try shellies they hide in there shells and can almost be put in any tank for something to look at near the bottom they are so fast it will be hard for anything to catch them before they get back to there shells not quite sure if your lfs will want them but aquabid will work
Just a thought

you can breed some apistos they are a small cichlid and fairly easy to breed. or some bolivian rams.
