Ok so I'm gonna try to keep this short but no promises. I am setting up my sons first tank. With that in mind I have a 75 that's been up for a few yes and has 3 filters running on it which have a good amount of bb. His tank has so far:
Ac30
Water heated to 78
Sand substrate
Most chemd needed for setup ( prime , stability, ect).
He wants plants and since its a beginner and sand we are gonna do water column plants..anubius, java moss, ect
My tank came down with ick June 1. I've treated and all looks well with no ick but not sure if I can use my seeded bb with hopefully no ick.
Has anyone used stability. From their reading it says dose 7 days and add a fish or 2 day one. My other thought is going to the LFS this weekend, grab a few plants and also see if they can give me well used filter pads or such for bb.
Assuming the plants and bb from the LFS is the best bet and if so should I do the LFS route and grab one fish to keep that bb going and to help seed the whole thing. Curious on your thoughts and if anything I missed let me know

Personally I would seed the 10 gallon with media from one of the filters and turn up the temperature . But if you feel uncomfortable with that then get it from the lfs but observe every aquarium and look for any sign of illness ich, clamped fins, or dead fish.

As far as I can tell all the fish have no ick anymore. So say I seeded tonight I could add 1 or 2 small fish such as a neon tetra or barb to keep and grow more of the bb?

I have been using the fish less cycle method. Simply awesome. Added bonus for me is i can use "higher" doses of ammonia to simulate a higher bioload, this way i can add bigger fish or many tish and not worry about a spike.

Personally i would seed the new tank and either raise the temp if treat with cheicals while you wait for it to cycle. Only trouble is make sure you dnt raise to so high as to inhibit bb growth.

Good luck

So what I've done is add the stability, seeded the bajesus out of it....(lava rocks, polyfil, sponge pads, scrubbies) all from my 75. With the NY 75 I did the fishless cycle and it took forever it seemed. On this 10 I added 2 guppies with the seeded and stability and so far so good. Doing daily water changes and so far everything is going good

I did not seed several of my tanka just to see. I did a 90 and a 75. Only dosing with ammonia (29.45%. So very little. Like 2.5 mil for the 90) it took about 17 days.

I just seededa 40 and am on day 3 or 4 with zero nitrites and zero ammonia. I will dose again today to see if it will clear by morning.
