hey all what would be a good ground cover for a 10 gallon. im using those screw on compact flourescent lights rated at 10w. no co2 im looking for something that can handle low tech. well any info and suggestions will be much appreciated thanks.
I have not had too much luck with these screw-on compacts - not even my Vallisneria like them. Furthermore, they generate lots of brown algae. My guess would be that a ground cover is not possible with that lighting. You can try (e.g. glossostigma elatinoides, E. tenellus), but I seriously doubt it'll work and therefore suggest to upgrade your canopy to a full fluorescent set-up.
You can always use java moss. Just tie it to some flat rocks and lay them side by side on the bottom and before you know it you will have a moss carpet.
I have no experience with the screw-in power compacts, but I grow many types of foreground plants in my tanks. In your ten gallon tank, you neglected to mention the type of substrate you are using. In any case, glossostigma will be a waste of your money and effort. I would focus on e. tenellus, as you would have a fair chance growing it. -Andrew
