Get an incandescent hood and put screw in some 10w 6500k CFLs.

Just what I was thinking....I grew everything using a regular incandescent hood with 2 20w screw in CFLs. Of course, depending on what types of plants you want, you can purchase more or less wattage.

Go to Walmart, and grab a two pack of regular CFLs in the wattage you want. Read on the back and make sure they say somewhere either 5500k or 6500k (usually labeled as "daylight" bulbs). It will cost you a whopping 9$ for both bulbs. Depending on the size of the bulb you select, you may have to unscrew the reflectors that come with the incandescent hood and replace with aluminum foil or something. Other than that, it's one of the best ways to light a ten gallon.
