I currently have a 10 gallon that I am using as a freshwater breeder tank, but I want to convert it to a reef tank.

I currently have a coralife light that uses T5-HO lamps, and it puts out 4.8 watts per gallon.

What sort of filtration should I be looking for? I have a little ten gallon tetra unit, which I dont think is going to be enough. Also, since its a ten gallon, would the current from the filtration be enough, or would i need to hook up some small power heads?

I have sand in the bottom of my tank right now, which has a good "bio film" on it. Could I keep it in there since its good to go, or should I go with a different substrate?

If you have never kept a reef tank, I highly suggest not trying your 1st attempt in a 10g. The parameters will fluctuate greatly & if you aren't on top of it all the time, it will be a sad failure. With a reef, bigger is always better.

Fixed for you. :)
