I have a 60 gallon tank. I also have a spare 10 gallon laying around. On the 60 gallon I have enough filtration that the tank is already turning over 10x an hour. I will be upgrading my tank soon and building a MONSTER tank after that so I need to get some exp with wet/dry, sump filtration. Would setting up a 10 gallon wet/dry on my 60 gallon tank do anything or would it just be a waste of time and money?

make the 60 a sump and run a 180 on it ;)

General rule: volume of show tank / 3 = sump size
60/3 = 20gal would be better

Yeah, I understand a larger sump would be better but I happen to have the ten gallon already just sitting around. Wondering if there would really be any benefit to making this ten a sump.

Practice is worth it's weight in 10gal tanks. Build it, you might spawn some new ideas for a larger one!

I had a spare 10gal laying around also. I was going to make it into a sump for a 50gal, but ended up taking it apart and using the plates of glass to start making a 55gal (another I have laying around) into a sump for my 180gal.

If you intend to make a sump for the large tank to come, use the 10gal as a practice piece to work out any ideas, and as Ar0wan stated, you will probably come up with more ideas.

lol thats what i did when i made my 10 gallon wet/dry, i had another one that i took apart to use for baffles, worked great!!

i guess for practice it would be good and im sure it wouldnt do any harm, but i dont know how much good it would do, you probably woulndt be able to fit your heater(s) in it which would blow, thats a major cool part to having a sump!!
