two baby Oscars each have ich in my 10 gallon tank and I am worried it will spread to the other fish.

I have been dosing my tank with aquarium salt and have been doing water changes daily.

The only problem is my heater. Sicne it's only a 10 gallon tank I only have a 50w heater that cant adjust temp. The thermometer strip says it's about 80 degrees. What should I do?

You need to up the temp to 86F (get a new heater if need be), keep dosing with salt and keep up with the water changes. That will take care of the ich.

Also make sure to toss in an airstone or two when you up the temp.

So, after 50% water changes every day, lights off, 1 TBSP salt per 5 gallons, the ich cysts on one of the oscars look like they have burst..... He also looks like he's been torn to shreds. Is that normal when the cysts burst or is he being beat up as well??

Thanks for the response!

From what I've read the quick cure/ formalin cannot be combined with aquarium salt...What are the reasons? Will it harm the fish? If I use aquarium salt regularly what's the best way to remove it before using the medication

if its a 10 gallon i would recommend taking all the water out and refilling it with freshwater and put the fish back in and then add the medicine for ich, i found that works alot better than just salt sometimes, also try the salt they use for saltwater fish tanks, mix it in with some water and dip the fish in there for a few seconds each day and put them back, some say the salt from that will help heal more

Thanks a bunch for the help. Like I said earlier it looks like it's starting to clear up so if I don't see better results by the weekend I will try that!

great man! hope all goes well!

im trying to find it if my fish has hole in the head or not lol
